Furnace Creek Inn is a very special historical place. We stayed 3 nights in February, when the weather is perfect for exploring Death Valley. The Inn itself has lovely common areas, inside and out. There is a hot springs pool (nice and long for lap swimming and open til 11pm), sauna, tennis courts (didn't see anyone playing), restaurant (overpriced...but then you figure there are not a lot of choices of places to eat in the Valley. Our room #221 was on OK location, but a bit noisy as near the cleaning supplies area. Air conditioning was not yet "on" (central heat or air per entire Inn) so we had to open our deck doors wide to get any air inside our small room. Nice (shared) deck overlooking beautiful gardens. Rooms a bit dated, but not spening much time in them. Staff VERY accomodating. Pretty pricey...but again, the hotel choices are very limited. Inn restaurant food so-so....not impressed with food and quite expensive. We had just 1 breakfast and 1 dinner. Bring a good bottle of wine and pay the $15 corkage. We took a humidifier as it is VERY VERY DRY in Death Valley. No dvd or cd player. Recommend rooms in building furthest north (124-133 and 224-233) for best views. Definately get to Deck on 4th floor (darkest to see sky at night) and Deck over Marquez Room for very comfy loungers to view night sky. Next time we'll either time to go for new moon for maximum sky-gazing or full moon when ranger leads evening walks on dunes. We brought some breakfast and lunch foods to save on $$ and to be able to explore entire day without having to find a place to eat. (We did eat at one of the "Resort" restaurants (the 49er); food mediocre.) Bring everything including water; General Store prices VERY high! Paid $4 for 2 (yes 2!) Advil!!!!!
