“Great addition to self guided tours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014 via mobile

We started with the natural entrance hike and big room the first afternoon and returned in the morning for this guided tour. It was fantastic! The rooms you can see only on this tour are spectacular, and even my 15 year old daughter who hates guided tours said this was her highlight. The kids especially loved the blackout where they turn off the lights. If you go to the caverns you MUST do a guided tour, and this is the best easy one.

“An excellent add on”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

The King's Palace tour is an excellent add on to any visit to Carlsbad Caverns. It is an extra fee tour, with some uphill walking and tight spaces, but well worth the extra cost and 1-1.5 hours. It takes you into a space not generally open to the public except by ranger guided tours, and the rangers have a wealth of information about the cave and this part of the cave system.

“Amazing Tour, Enjoy the total blackout”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

We really enjoyed this tour. If you have time, take this tour. It's relatively low impact (less than the natural entrance) and you get to see things that were once open to the public. The King's Palace room was nice, but I think the Queen's Chamber is the highlight of the trip. The total blackout is awesome. Once again I was amazed at how people can't deal with true silence for more than a few seconds, but don't let that spoil the tour. At the end of the blackout the ranger lit a single old lantern to give us the feel for what early explorers have.

This is a must see/do!

“Great tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

There are several choices, so I can't talk about the others, but this one was spectacular! I wish now I had given more time to take another tour, too.

“An awesome circuit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

There was an extra charge for this but we purchased it with a general admission 3-day pass - it was well worth the value. The tour is given by a park ranger who provides excellent insights on the history of the caverns and formations. This extension, at one point, was free as part of the general admission but due to vandalism by tourists became a paid tour. Was hard to believe folks would damage the gorgeous formations but that comes with public access. I would consider this somewhat strenuous since the gradients coming back up are steep. I highly recommend the tour.
