“different views, some awesome hikes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Loved Arches more, but this was a good drive. Did two half days. Wished we had done one whole day. Kind of a long drive in from the main road. Hiked the end of the park first, very good trail with awesome views. Hiked to the Dome overlooking the mysterious meteorite sulpheric upheaval. That was a cool hike. Watch for the inukshuks (piles of rocks) to keep you on the right path.

“Great Gallery at Horseshoe Canyon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

This place is brilliant but takes some effort to get to. The turnoff is just south of the Goblin valley turn on Utah 24, followed by an hour on a reasonable dirt road. The advice to carry a gallon of water must be heeded. My wife had tidied the car out the evening before and removed my hat, which I didn't know until I reached the trailhead. Wear a hat or you will end up pouring some of your water on your head, as I did, to keep cool. The ancient rock art is stunning and really worth the walk down into, along the canyon and back up. However it is a difficult hike, there is lots of soft sand which feels like walking uphill, even on the level, and the climb back up is exhausting. I am probably too unfit to have done the hike, it took me four and a half hours including photo and rest stops, but I wouldn't have missed the experience.

“Huge park - awesome !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

This is a huge park, we only visited the Islands in the Sky section. Much quieter than Arches but almost more impressive. The scale of the canyons is jaw dropping - try and catch a talk by one of the rangers - 40 minutes gave us an insight into how the park was created and all the layers we could see - and the current situation. He was informative without being too simplistic. It got a bit warm in the sun though - fill water bottles at the visitor centre on the way in. Did the short walk to Mesa Arch - wow. Don't get too close if you are scared of heights! Highly highly recommended.

Hikers won't be disappointed...make sure you are well prepared. We hiked the Elephant Hill area, it was breathtaking.
