I just got back from a 3 night stay at the Needles Outpost and I can honestly say, I've never had a better experience at a commercial campground! Tracey and Gary were gracious, accommodating, and just uber-nice to chat with and deal with! As many of the reviews have stated, the facilities are spotless, the water hot, and the store is an amazing little oasis in the middle of nowhere. My hiking companions and I were treated warmly, and our stay was the perfect way to cap an evening after hiking in Canyonlands all day. We loved being able to have a small fire and a picnic table to use. This was our second stay, and a good friend has gone there as well and has had great experiences, too. People shouldn't expect the Four Seasons. It's in a desert canyon, for da crissake! There is dirt and dust. Campers there don't want rowdy, noisy neighbors. If you want to park a huge RV here and unpack a houseful of crap, crank up a boombox and go nuts, find another place to camp. Please. But since my group is used to finding a spring to pump water and digging scat holes for a bathroom, Needles Outpost is a warm, friendly 5 star luxury lodging from some of our hiking trips!
As to the unusual negative reviews, I just can't imagine the tales. We have never, EVER encountered anything even remotely like a few reviewers here on this site. Now, make no mistake, I'm sure Tracey can hold her own with just about anybody. You'd have to to live in a location so far removed from, well, almost everything. But after seeing how some people treat hotel employees and housekeeping like dirt as I have traveled in my 50+ years, sometimes a bad experience pops up, I"m sure. How some people in the hospitality field can keep their cool with some people is amazing. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of rude, aloof hotel or camping hosts too. But Tracey and Gary are two of the BEST hosts I've had the pleasure of being with!
I would not hesitate to book a stay with these great people ever! The three of us give Tracey and Gary six thumbs WAY up.
