The dappled light, fern covered boulders, ancient pines and stone walls made for a magical hike. We veered off the Beech Mountain Trail down to the lake, which was an absolutely beautiful hike, but when we got all the way to the bottom, we discovered that we were at the parking lot by a great place to kayak. Was delighted to walk the 2 1/2 miles back to our parking lot as the walk was so beautiful, but had been expecting a pond that could only be accessed by foot. Do note that the lake is a reservoir, so kayaking is allowed but no swimming.
