“Magical honeymoon in Makris Gialos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Our honeymoon we spent in the Makris Gialos Apartments. It was just a magical week! The apartments are very cozy, comfortable and fully equipped. There is everything you need to stay clean and tidy. Wonderful view from the balcony on the bay and the blue-blue sea! Each evening having a dinner on a cozy balcony, surrounded by flowers, we enjoyed picturesque views and silence. Ivana and Dionisis are very hospitable hosts, will help you in all!! Their tavern To Petrino – is the best on the island! (we had dinner at different places and we have something to compare). Olive oil and its own production house wine - a real yummy!
I really liked the location of the apartment - the beach is very beautiful with crystal clear waters, peace and quiet, extremely close to the point of departure to the blue caves and shipwreck bay, stone park Askos.
I do not like to go a few times in the same place, but here I would go back in a heartbeat!
Dear Ivana and Dionisis, thank you for the magical unforgettable holiday!

We were greeted by Ivana and Dionisis with a glass of wine and the very local Ouzo! The flat is brand new, extremely clean with a cozy and comfortable bed and a gorgeous balcony. The area of the hotel is nice, quiet and there is a wonderful family beach 50 m away from the apartments! Ivana is an involved host who will share a wealth of information with you about the island, the best beaches, what to do, and where to eat. Dionisis not only host the hotel but also go fishing in the early mornings to offer the best catch in their amazing restaurant. Ivana loves to cook, and was eager to share her wonderful creations with us. In other words, they show a kindness and gentleness that is a rarity these days. It was truly honor for us to stay with them. They certainly receive our highest recommendation as host, and we would not hesitate to stay with them again. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Myself and my partner spent a few nights in Zakinthos and decided to avoid the tourists and English influence on the island by traveling to the north of the island instead. Wow, did we make the right decision !!

This was the first time that my partner had been to Greece, and I (being greek) wanted to show him what Greek Island living is really like. This is exactly what we got at Makris Gialos Apartness. A small, family run business in a GREAT location. The area is quiet, with the occasional car passing by and everyone seems to stop and wave or pop in for an ouzo. The gorgeous pebbled beach is a 5 minute walk, where you can also book your boat trips to the Blue Caves or to see the Shipwreck with a fantastic little kiosk to pick up your afternoon ice-cream just across from the beach.

Ivana was friendly and so helpful with everything. . from cooking a delicious evening meal to arranging a hire car to meet us at the terminal (a car is definitely a necessity) nothing is too much of an effort, and was much appreciated.

We highly recommend the hotel as the prefect little spot to disappear into a rather romantic, greek island life for however short a time.

Room Tip: The Superior Room is worth the additional cost, for the view alone.

My wife and I have just returned from this wonderful place where we enjoyed two weeks of heaven. Ivana & Dionisis couldn't have been more accommodating nothing is too much trouble The spotless apartments are well run, well furnished and equipped but as someone else said remain cozy. They also own the restaurant next door they do all the work themselves and it shows. I could go on but it's easier to visit their website everything you read is exactly what you will get.
Makris Gialos is in the north of the Island but less than 30 minutes from Zakynthos The main attraction are the blue caves and shipwreck beach the prices for which are very reasonable boats are available from the bay 3 minutes walk away. We went from the lighthouse right at the northern tip of the island we went around 9.00 and had the whole area of the caves to ourselves for about an hour and had the boat to ourselves. The coaches from the rest of the island arrive at St Nicholas bay about 10-30 so its a good tip. I have no hesitation in recommending these wonderful apartments. You probably will need a car though. Don't whatever you do hire one from Merlis car hire as this is the islands rent a wreck. I will post a detailed review of this on the relevant page

Stayed here with a group from England - oh heaven, this place is cozy and yes romantic hide away. An old school Mediterranean hospitality. Made me want to stay forever. The food next door made me want to steal the recipe book and learn how to cook.

We really loved the place and service! The apartment was bright new, very comfortable and clean. The view and place is very nice, far from noisy towns and near the beach. There is a parking close by and many local restaurants as well. The owners are very friendly and are ready to help you, give all the information. We really recommend the place!

We visited this place for a two week holiday. As a family we are always looked for placed which are not overcrowded, have good local food and are children friendly. These apartments have all the the above and more. The family who runs the place shine out the meaning of the words "Greek Hospitaly". The apartments are very well kept, very clean with a large bedroom and a mid range bathroom. The balcony overlooks the Makris Gialos bay which is the perfect palce to spent the sunny days with the family. Not too many tourists, the waters are very clean. Back to the room, there is a TV for practising your Greek, and a kitchenet for preparing some small meals???... i dont think so. A stone drop away the family also run their own restaurant called "To Petrino". Made by stone from the region, the family will serve you everything that your hungry stomach will ask for. From local sepcialities to international dishes. Of course, being at the Ionian sea, you must ask for fish, fished by the familys father almost everyday. Had really a wonderfull time and will definately return here next year. Mid September till mid October and Mid May till end of June is the best time when you travel with family. Renting a car is not necessery unless you wish to visit some lonely beaches nearby.. (ask for Annas beach). Great great great.
