“Very good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Last night was our third visit to The Lawns, and it's so good to have found a great quality restaurant so close to home.
It's not cheap but it's great value for money and all the staff are well trained and knowledgeable about the food they are serving.
The decor is a little eclectic and the hotel entrance is dismal, but don't be put off,the food more than makes up for these minor flaws.

“Afternoon Tea.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

Had a lovely afternoon tea here. Staff were lovely (esp Iris) nothing was too much trouble for them. Has a beautiful large pond in the front garden. Manicured lawns at the rear with a lovely little gazebo seating 20 guests for weddings.
Also has a spa and offers spa breaks. Lovely interior. Not cheap but not over the top.

“Afternoon tea”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

I recently went to Thornton Hall for Afternoon Tea, there were 3 of us and we were there as a surprise 70th birthday celebration for one in our group. We opted for the Champagne Afternoon Tea, seved in the bar/ conservatory, probably the best option as the restaurant would have been very quiet at 2.30pm. Tea arrived, nicely presented, 9 quarter sandwiches, small but tasty and a selection of small cakes/pastries, scones, cream and a small bowl of delicious strawberries. There were 7 cakes (for 3? That would test a friendship) and when I pointed this out it was politely rectified. However the bar manager was noticed sneaking a look at our table, believe me we would hardly try pulling a fast one for 2 cakes, we just wanted what we were paying for! Overall a disappointing experience, I certainly would not recommend and not value for money.

Lovely food in elegant surroundings. Excellent service. A bit on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.
