“A dream come true”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2010

Thornton Manor is every little girl’s fantasy wedding venue.
It truly is magical. The staff especially Phillip and Dianne can't do enough.
The Lakeside Marque is fantastic, stunning venue and views just perfect.
Stayed in East Lodge Cottage in pure luxury and comfort and woke up to the most magnificent views over the marquee.
Would love to have our wedding day all over again really was a dream come true.

We held our wedding reception in the Lakeside Marquee at Thornton Manor in July this year. As soon as we saw the place we fell in love with it and nowhere else would do. It was a lot more spacious than anywhere else we'd seen and the setting was beautiful, as was the village of Thornton Hough. The marquee can be sectioned off into drinks reception, wedding breakfast area and then a reveal can be lifted as your evening reception starts to show your band/DJ a starlit black ceiling, white dancefloor, trendy black sofas and chrome bar and bar stools, it wowed all our guests. The decking alongside the marquee allows everyone to enjoy the lakeside setting and the sunshine if it's a nice day. At night the lake and the trees are lit up in blues and purples and there are lanterns lit all along the pathway. The lodges and cottages that can be rented are all traditional and you really feel like you're going back in time when you stay over. It was so relaxing to stay over in East Lodge with my bridesmaids the night before the wedding. The staff at Thornton Manor are wonderful, they really couldn't do more for you. Philip and Dianne are really welcoming and make your day feel so special. Dianne came to the lodge to help me with my dress and even drove to the church to arrange the train before I went down the aisle. When I got there Philip was there too to wish us well which was really nice. At the reception we had a member of staff who event managed the whole day and was absolutely brilliant! He even tied our chair bows on for us! When it started to rain while we were having our photos taken in the grounds he appeared with a car to take us back to the marquee. He also picked us up at the end of the night to take us back to our bridal suite, having already made a separate trip with all our wedding gifts. We were overwhelmed by how helpful he was and a lot of our guests commented on the brilliant service provided by the staff. We feel so lucky to have been able to have our special day at Thornton Manor, it was simply perfect!

Thornton Manor was the only wedding venue that gave us that magical feeling when we viewed it for the first time and we went to pretty much every venue in mid and north England! The history, the beautiful antiques, the ornate delicate interior and striking approach through the gatehouse all add up to the best wedding day you could wish for. My wife fell for the lime tree lined aisle, as soon as she saw that I knew I was in trouble! The staff offer 5 star service and the caterers they recommend barrats are superb, truly fine dining. The olive tree florist a mile down the road are excellent as well. Philip and Dianne are the perfect hosts. 11/10. Thanks again.

Thornton Manor is just beautiful, set in stunning surroundings, I couldn't imagine a more perfect setting for our wedding. We had the most magical time at this venue and the day far exceeded our expectations. We just didn’t stop smiling all day.

The staff at Thornton Manor do everything they can to be welcoming and as helpful as possible. The detail they go to makes everything that bit more special. The staff even went as far as last minute emergency fixing of the wedding dress and first aid treatment on my wasp sting!!

Since the wedding I have had many compliments from our guests about how brilliant the Thornton Manor staff were and how gorgeous the venue is.

We had our "Walima" reception at Thornton Manor - which for those not in the know is a kind of Islamic post-wedding groom's reception. In any case, the venue is absolutely amazing and caters brilliantly for Asian weddings. We found Phillip and Dianne to be extremely helpful and attentive and they (wonderfully) were always available to answer our questions and offer sound advice. Unlike many businesses specialising in wedding venue hire which often present as rather faceless, at Thornton Manor, we found we were dealing with real people who were genuinely interested in making our day extra special. The premises are remarkable, beautiful, authentic and romantic. No better venue exists anywhere in England

We got married at Thornton Manor on 24th July 2010 and it was truly the best day of our lives. I had my heart set on getting married in a castle and had to be dragged to the manor by my parents, who had heard it was a lovely venue. As soon as we set foot through the door we knew this was where we wanted to get married. It is an exceptionally stunning venue, the music room took my breath away. It isn't the cheapest place to get married but we believe you get what you pay for. And you do, as someone else said, feel like Lord and Lady of the manor for the day! Most importantly, we received fantastic service. Philip, Di and their wonderful team run the venue meticulously, but are still warm, friendly people. Di was present throughout the day, making sure everything ticked over without any problems, our events co-ordinator from Barretts, Michelle, was incredible. Our guests wanted for nothing. The manor is constantly being updated and improved. In the two years since we booked it, all of the bathrooms were refurbished, for example. The cottages are particularly impressive. The morning after the wedding, we were seen off by Diane, who was genuinely touched by our thanks for a brilliant day, and we then received a lovely letter from them after thanking them more formally. Too often, venues of the quality of Thornton Manor become complacent and lose sight of the individuals getting married, who become just more customers with money. As far as we are concerned, our experience was made all the more special by the outstanding service we received both before, and on, the day itself. We just hope that one day someone we know gets married there so that we can experience it all again!

Thornton Manor must be one of the top wedding venues in the country. Everything they do is pure 5 star class. The Manor House is a timeless piece of history which we were lucky enough to call our own for 2 whole days. We finished our celebration in the Lakeside marquee which is a must. it won't be cheap but I'll be the best money you have ever spent!!
