“Highligt of a fantastic holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2007

We spent 2 nights in Ukjozi Lodge in January just passed. This is separate to Kariega as it is situated a fair distance away from the main lodge. It consists of individual suites/chalets and its own main lodge and pool.
The suites were amazing. Huge open plan room with the biggest bed we have ever slept in, as well as a lounge area and a massive bathroom with all the 5 star trappings you would expect. The icing on the cake was your own private veranda with plunge pool and a view of the plains where you can see the Giraffe grazing. It really is fantastic.
I have to mention the passionate, lovely Jacques for making our game drives a once in a life time experience. We saw 4 of the big five on our first drive.
You return to the lodge after each drive to be handed refreshments, hot towels, every detail of your stay is amaxing.
The food and the Boomba with African singing around the fire was memorable, sitting under the stars, drinking wine...
I can't reccommend Ukhoz Lodge highly enough. Yes-it is not cheap, but you can't put a price on this experience !

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2006

We stayed at Ukhozi Lodge (in Kariega Game Reserve) at the beginning of June this year for 3 nights at the end of our honeymoon. It was a fantastic finale to the holiday.
There are 10 semi-detached suites at Ukhozi, each sleeping 2 people in a huge bed, with your own jacuzzi and a shared plunge pool (I believe they have plans to give every suite their own pool by the end of 2006). There was also a lovely living area, deck with outdoor seating and luxury bathroom. All decorated in with african art, very nice indeed.
The lodge itself where you eat all your meals (breakfast and lunch with your ranger and their other guests) is also really lovely with a big log fire in the evenings. The food was amazing. Fantastic breakfasts followed by 3 course lunches and dinners - lovely seafood and a great selection of other food with great service too. All the staff were lovely, but I would have to give a special mention to Linda, our ranger, who was extremely knowledgable and fun to be with. We went on 2 game drives a day and stopped for drinks during the drive in the evening. We managed to see so many animals, including lions, hippos, rhinos, elephants, many different antelope species, warthog, mongoose, jackals, buffalo, wildebeast, etc, etc. Plus lots of birds. The drives were fantastic - an unforgettable experience.
I would definitely recommend Kariega and in particular the Ukhozi lodge for honeymooners or for any very special occasion - it was amazing and we'd go back in the morning!!!
