“Very nice, quick sunday lunch.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Stopped here on the way to Arundel. Its very warm and cosy inside, but we had no trouble getting a table despite the fact that the pub was very busy.

We ordered the pork roast (with all the trimmings) and ham, egg & chips, with a pint of stowford press cider. The food was served quickly, and tasted great. The pork was nice and juicy, lots of roast potatoes and a decent yorkshire pudding, the only complaint was the lack of pork crackling. The ham, egg & chips was also good, the chips especially nice. I will visit again :-)

“Good food but useless service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We went there for a lunch time meal and the food was good but the service needs improving because they were useless, 45 minute wait for food to arrive and the staff were slow, unfriendly and unwelcoming. A little eye contact wouldn't go a miss!

“Lovely pub but poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Traditional old English pub in amazing setting but we found that the food was very average and customer service rather poor and pretty unremarkable. Had a drink in the 'posh' bar first and was just stared at the whole time by some local agricultural neanderthol at the bar in the lower side. He obviously just sits there drinking and staring at visitors. I wouldnt mind but i grew up in loxwood but everytime I go back here for some good memories I feel totally let down. Nobne of the regulars from years ago go there anymore which may tell a story. Needs a change!

“Family meal”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

We went there for a family meal. We live in Scotland and the rest of our family live in the area. The warning bells went off when on a Sunday at lunch time the pub was empty. I suspect local people vote with their feet.

It was a party of 10. The choice was pretty simple to cook 3 mushroom and chicken pies, 2 scampi and chips, 1 haddock and chips, three sunday roasts. It was all over cooked and dry.

“Excellent ploughman's lunch after canal boat trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The Onslow is right in front of the Wey & Arun Canal. We'd just gone for the canal boat trip for a family New Year's outing. - a pleasant excursion about twenty minutes down the canal and back.

Stopping off at the Onslow was perfect. They were quite busy due to the New Year's holiday. Nevertheless they managed to take our order and serve us in a reasonable amount of time.

The ploughman's lunch (£8.25) consisted of cheddar wtih a slice of ham, pickled onion, a gherkin, a bit of salad and an artisan roll. Simple with nice, fresh ingredients.

The only thing slightly deficient area was the service. The lady who served us, who may have been one of the owners, did not really have a nice warm, customer friendly manner, but she may have been stressed due to the large number of people to serve.

Also just behind us was a speaker playing music. Instead of adding to the atmosphere, this just makes it harder to converse with people at the table. I'd much rather have no music than have a speaker just behind me. Because every table was taken it wasn't possible to change tables.

Overall a pleasant experience.
