“Lovely festive ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Lovely food, decent prices and good selection, good real ales too and very cosy in the main part of the pub. We ate here twice as recommended, & also there seemed to be nowhere else near where we were staying.
Not so good if you were eating in the add-on area which was like a corridor. Most staff were very friendly and welcoming, two stood out for being less so but we put this down to being very busy.

“Excellent food, ale and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Recommended by our host at the B&B where we were staying we went here for an evening meal. The food was a good range with a range of prices. The beer is local, well brewed and very well kept. I would particularly recommend the Grasmoor Dark Ale!
Steak and ale pie at £9.95 was a good plate full and delicious, the puddings are also not to be missed!

“Consistently Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

Recently visited with friends and toddler. Service was efficient, friendly and attentive. Scottish lady was very amiable. Food arrived quickly and was tasty. I had the Tatie Pot which I have had before and it was indeed very tasty but I sense the portion has got smaller over the years. Not as filling as I expected it to be. Great spot and when summer's here, the garden is a lovely spot to sit, eat and drink. Service at the bar needs to be speeded up a bit though as a bottle neck began to form when a larger group came.

“Nice lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

Brought my parents here for lunch and food was good as ever. The main eating area away from the open fire was quite chilly though but otherwise a lovely meal.

“Little Gem!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

We were told to try this pub out as we were in the area for a couple of days and what a find! We went two nights in a row and thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We felt very at home by the fire and the food was excellent. We tried the steak and ale, spicy cod fillet and chicken and leek pie. All the dishes were excellent. There were a few tables reserved, but we had no trouble finding a nice table, maybe because its quieter in November. The ales were fantastic. I've already started recommending this place to my friends.
