“Rustic charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

We just stopped for something to eat as it was such a lovely location. The landlord was very friendly and we were seated say) at a wooden table near the window - it was a lovely position and we watched people coming and going. We had a starter each (1 scallops and 1 prawns) and we shared both the dishes, which were very flavoursome and beautifully cooked. Both main courses were very good too. As for the overall place, it had rustic charm but felt that it needed a few little extra touches (the napkins (brown with sort of white flecks) which seemed to have been through the washing machine hundreds of times left a lot to be desired and it just seems as if a bit more colour and finishing touches wouldn't go amiss. Having said that, the food was good and was not overpriced.

“Our favourite spot on our travels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

My son and I spent a wonderful time in Lulworth Cove, made all the more enjoyable by our stay at Bishops Cottage. It was a return pilgrimage to Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door for me (after 21 years) and was, undoubtedly, the best stop my son and I made on our splendid holiday together. Bishop's Cottage is a beautiful, beautifully positioned gem by the sea. So wish we could have spent more time there. Extremely comfortable. We felt pampered by the attention to detail of our room and the warmth and friendliness of the owners. A trully special find...so hope we'll be able to return with the rest of our South African family in the not too distant future.

Always great to meet people from SA. I had family in Zim so I know how beautiful Africa can be. So for you guys to love the Jurassic Coast and Bishops is praise indeed. Looking forward to your return. As long as its not a weekend when the Box are playing England. Well why not as long as we win.

“BRILLIANT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

When we entered Bishops after a long walk along the Jurassic Coast and were immediately Greeted With smiles and conversation By the young couple who i can only assume run the place. After getting us sum drinks and showing us round the marvelous rooms they gave us some evening menus with the offer of 2 courses for 15 pounds. We ordered the scallops followed by sea bass and i must say it was one of the best fish dishes i have ever had the pleasure of eating, and for 15 pounds....well it was excellent value to say the least!!

I will certainly recommend this restaurant/B&B to any one, and already have!!

We will definitely be seeing you again!!

“A mixed bag. Good in parts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

No problems booking. The place seemed understaffed. The scallops and the haddock were beautifully cooked, which went a long way to helping us to forgive the less professional aspects of the place. Although the scallops were great, they sat on the kind of dull salad you'd expect from a maiden aunt on a Sunday teatime. The quiet young lad with his flies open, simply put the cutlery one-handed on the table, rather than setting them before us - albeit with a smile. There seemed to be a delay at other tables and an apologetic man who seemed like the chef left to fetch supplies from elsewhere to meed the demand. Although the cornettos handed to us at the end were free, it just seemed a tad tacky after the gorgeous fish. Having said all that we would definitely go again because everything was done with good grace. Go for the fish.

Thanks for the comments. We will take on board your advice and tighten up where we should. We do operate a set menu at £15 a head for a starter and a main. We keep the cost down by offering an ice cream at the end free rather than another corse and higher price. We are a very small operation and want to make what we do the best we can. Puddings are something we will look at for the winter along with a cheese board. We do try and be as chilled and unstuffy in Bishops that is why we offer BYO. However teenagers with their flies open helping out when we are packed is regreatable however at least he had his trousers pulled up!!!
