“Great for families with younger children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

We stayed for two weeks in July/August 2012, and took two teenagers and a large tent. We took the larger pitch option, which worked really well for us, the pitch was spacious and each one has a tap as well as electric hook up. The pitch was near one of the well kept toilet / shower / washing blocks, and was in fact pretty much in the centre of the site.
The reception staff are friendly, and were quite happy to switch to speaking English when my French let me down! Hiring a large BBQ at 1.5euro's a night was handy.
There is a shop with bakery etc on the site, which closes across the middle of the afternoon, and and there is a large supermarket in Onzain, a 10 minute drive away.
The food from the on site take-away was good quality, we re-visited for pizza a few times! The bar/cafe/restaraunt though was not like other sites we have been on - you do need to remember your French in this area of the site, and while we did not eat there so cannot comment on the food, we found that in an evening we would have preferred a little more atmosphere / entertainment. Other Yelloh sites we have stayed at have also had a seperate slightly more formal restaraunt, which is not present here.
Overall the site seems to be set up for families with smaller children, with a zero noise request from 11pm to 7:30am. We found sleeping in difficult when all of those under 10's woke up early!! Once the little ones are up and about though there are many choices of bouncy castles, climbing frames, trampolines, rope slides etc, and kids entertainment during the day / in the early evening. The pool area is also more for play than swim, and is in good condition.
There are a lot of pitches and holiday homes on this site, but overall the site feels quite compact. While everything the site has tried to do is done well, It was not quite right for us, with two teenagers and wanting a little more to do in the evenings.

Room Tip: The bigger pitches are worth the extra. (if you are camping/caravanning!)

Stayed for two weeks on 29/7/12. Really loved our stay although weather was disappointing, cold and wet mostly. We stayed in preium cottage, sleeping 5. Very comfortable and clean. However, the kitchen needs to be better equipped, for instance, the drinking glasses were tiny and not practical for children, they need bigger glasses and more of them. The bottle opener for wine was old fashioned and no kettle for tea / coffee. No oven, ideally you wouldn't need one if the weather was good with BBQ, but it was too wet to BBQ. Towels supplied and bed linen all clean. Showers not good because too difficult to get temperature right and we ended up going to the communal showers some days because the children couldn't manage the shower in cottage. However, communal showers were excellent and very clean.

Washing facilities good - £5 and £3 for tokens, although it took £9 most of the time to get a load dry.

Bin Area - very good and clean and tidy.

Pool - excellent. Life guard very efficient and watchful. My children did cut their toes a couple of times in the covered pool. I think the surface covering on the floor of the pool is not tacked in places. Aqua aerobics classes very good.

Childrens facilites - play area very good. Trampolines excellent. Riding shetland ponies once a week very good and great fun. Bicyles very good but pricey at £7 a day each, my children wanted to hire them every day and it adds up.

Kids club - second to none. Really couldn't speak highly enough of it. The 3 dutch girls were excellent and really great imagination with the children and so enthuasiastic. Trusted them with the children and a welcome break for parents.

Shop - Expensive but worth it for supplies urgently needed. Great to be able to get French bread and croissants everyday.

My only criticism is of the little shetland pony on the way into Camp, in very poor condition and totally uncared for. Sad to see considering this is the first advertisement when you come into parc.

Safety for children. The camp wasn't so big that you couldn't be within easy reach of the children and I felt that they were safe going around on their bikes most of the time. Obviously, one must be vigilant because there are alot of people coming in and out camping.

Great runs all around the parc and looped runs of upto 12 miles, roads very quiet and very scenic routes. The parc need to set up a running camp, expecially for women, as there were so many runners leaving the parc daily.

Restaurants nearby in Onzain, across from Casino called D'Oili (I think) pizzeria. Very good value and pizzas very good. Also in Onzain, Restaurant la Gare (obviously near Station). Lovely food and authentically French. Cafe in square of Onzain across from Church. Looks shabby but food really good, also the lady has excellent English.

Worth a visit - Blois - Dragons and Houdini museum.

Restaurant in parc du val appaling.. Service really awful and staff rude. Their are only two staff in it who actually seem to know what they are doing. Pizzas inedible and my children wouldn't eat them. Too expensive and the only item worth having is their coffee. Thats if you can actually get served within an hour without them constantly walking by and ignoring you. The restaurant is the reason they haven't go 5 stars from me. Waste of time and to be avoided at all costs.

Room Tip: Premium cottages good and in excellent location where you can see the children. Make sure to take o...

This is a big family holiday site with events most evenings but surprisingly quiet on our pitch, number 369. Pitches were of good size and ours (with 3 flowers) had water and 10 amp electricity.
Easy to find, the pitches could be tricky to access through the trees with a caravan so patience and care was necessary.
Reception was helpful and bilingual if necessary and will supply cable extensions (necessary on some pitches). the shop was great with a good range of supplies and bread baked freshly on the premises which was delicious!!
Showers were cleaned twice a day and there was plenty of hot water in fairly small cubicles. The toilets were adequate, but without seats and very low on the ground. We preferred to use our own. Chemical toilet disposal was OK, but there was no rinsing tap except in a nearby sink.
For some reason the (mostly Dutch) teenagers on site seemed to use the toilets as a noisy social centre which would have been very irritating if you had to have a pitch close by.
We did not use the take-away or the pool which got very busy at peak periods in the warm weather.
A very convenient site for local attractions, we enjoyed our stay for eight days as two adults and would go again.

Room Tip: Find a pitch away from the toilet blocks

Traveled with wife and 5 kids (5-14) on Irish Ferries Oscar Wilde and had great crossings. What a great improvement on previous Irish Ferries vessels. Food and accommodation on board were excellent.
Arrive at Parc Du Val de Loire around 4.00 pm after driving from Cherbourg (French Motorways are fantastic but cost €23 in tolls each way!). Check-in was fast and efficient. I have to say the reception staff were excellent throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble for them. Accommodation was in one of the new O'Hara 3 bed chalets which were spotless with the beds made and towels provided for all. The chalet looked out on a central green area with plenty of space around it for the kids to play. Campsite had excellent facilities and kids were delighted with the swimming pool complex with outside and inside (heated) pools. We had free wi-fi with our package and brought the laptop which helped the 14 year old keep in touch with her friends via Skype and Facebook.
Only disappointment was the onsite restaurant, which we have planned to use 5-6 times during our 14 night stay. The first evening we tried it the waiter was so rude and unaccommodating that we just paid for our drinks and left. Don't know what his problem was but it really put a damper on the start of our holidays.
The Kids Club was excellent and our youngest got great enjoyment from it.
Would highly recommend this campsite as it is one of the best I have stayed in and we holiday in France every other year. Yelloh know how to run their campsites.
