“Great location on edge of Cotswolds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here for two nights. The first night we dined in the hotel and the food was average. Dining area has a nice feel but quite a few foreign staff, so as with a few of the staff who come to work in the hotels in the UK, they just don't seem to have any personality so you seem to receive a frosty cold type of service. The rooms are clean and good size and quite a bit of parking behind the hotel. On the 2nd night the Manager was present and the service and general feel in the hotel was so much better and it is because of this that I would consider staying again if we were in the area.

Booked in for 3 nights half board. Just before going received phone call to say they had a special music evening one of the nights and their restaurant wasn't available. However, offered alternatives either at a local restaurant of our choice or at their sister hotel 3 miles away with taxi provided and this is what we went for. Hotel itself was fine, had a large room, spotlessly clean, and although few minor niggles nothing that would stop us staying again. Food in their restaurant was above average and staff both friendly and helpful. The meal we had at sister hotel was excellent. When we paid our bill came the surprise as on checking it I noticed they had only charged for 2 nights. Querying this they said that as we had been inconvenienced by their restaurant not being available they were only charging us for 2 nights!! Obviously this influenced to some extent our judgement of the hotel but to be fair even before we knew this we had said we would like to return to the area and would probably choose the same hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms face a fairly busy road - we didn't find it a problem but some may. Also some rooms a...

A large number of rooms were booked for a village funeral in October. Some confusion between organiser and the reviewer but we managed to source a room for the Friday night and the original suite fot the Saturday as booked. Both rooms are popualr with regular guests - no complaints but we will certainly address your comments. The Deddington Arms staff take pride in their cleanliness and sevice standards.

We stayed here for one night on a Travelzoo deal which included a champagne cream tea, three course evening meal and breakfast for £99. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming, particularly the lady on reception who changed our room without any prompting, so that we could avoid having to walk outside in bad weather. The cream tea was lovely with freshly baked warm scones. The evening meal was of a good standard, but perhaps not as tasty as we expected AA rosette food to be. Breakfast was fine and overall we had a very good stay here and would recommend this as a perfect location to explore the Cotswolds and surrounding area. We would definitely stay again.

Staff welcoming throughout stay. Food tremendous, especially the turbot. Lovely 18th century Inn with roaring fire and very cosy atmosphere. Set in quiet little village.
Would definitely return.

Room Tip: We had a superior room included in deal which was nice, but if we were to stay for more the a couple...

We visited the Dennington Arms on a Travelzoo special offer for one night for dinner/bed/breakfast and champagne cream tea.
It was my birthday so my partner rang ahead to arrange for flowers for our room and to ask for a 'special room'.
We arrive not only to find the flowers ready and waiting but we had been given a room that had been converted from a victorian cottage at the back of the hotel in the annexe. The room even had the original cottage front door (now sealed) but also the original firplace as well. The room was delightful and very atmospheric..... you could almost envisage the original inhabitants coming in to their cottage!
Our champagne cream tea was enjoyed in front of a blazing log fire before exploring Dennington, a delightful village, at dusk when all the lights were just coming on and the smell of woodsmoke in the air.
The meal was very good with a reasonably priced bottle of Sicilian Merlot.
Next morning my partner breakfasted on his usual 'full english' next morning whilst I enjoyed a very generous portion of smoked salmon and scrambled egg.
The Dennington Arms is a lovely village inn very convenient for the eastern Cotswolds, which we would love to return to in the snow! So romantic!

Room Tip: The annexe at the back is very quiet with good sized rooms and the rooms forming pert of the 'Ki...

The hotel is well organised and good value. The rooms are in an annexe which has been nicely done (not at all the guest hutches which some country pubs/hotels have slapped up in the car park!). Mine was arranged as a duplex 'suite', "which was nice".

Room Tip: Do not fear 'the annexe'
