“Customer service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Some friends of mine visiting from Canada booked a table . Arrived several minutes after 7 o clock and told that the children could not served because although when booked they were told there would be children. We had travelled some miles to get there . They were very unhelpful and unfriendly. Would not go there again. Our friends got a very bad impression of English hospitality

This review has created some amusement with my customers and staff as you state firstly your friends made a booking and secondly at the time of booking told us there would be children..

My reply is firstly in 10 years we have never taken taken bookings for evenings and secondly we have a restriction on our licence concerning young children and had your friends would have been told this had they enquired.

we we not unhelpful or unfriendly the rules and our licence are clear ... young children have to be off the premisses by 7.30pm also clearly stated on the front door.

I am sorry you travelled some distance to get to us but also surprised with young children that no one checked first that we are suitable.

Please a message to all readers please know all the facts before posting reviews if you get it wrong then you are messing with some ones business and all the hard work that goes into running it in difficult times as well as hurt the staff feel.
Consider a tripadvisor type site where your anonymous customers, competitors, peers and all others etc could freely comment on you. How would you feel about untruths?

“Consistently great pies!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

We have been to Crown and Tuns a handful of times and every time, the pies are fabulous! The service is friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is cozy. Loved how the apple pie with ice cream was served with the ice cream cleverly tucked inside the puff pastry shell! We highly advise checking this place out!

“Surprisingly food intolerance friendly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

As we have within our family, people with gluten and dairy intolerances, a pub which specialises in pies wouldn't have been our first choice, but my mother chose the Crown and Tuns for her 78th birthday lunch as she loves the place. It never occurred to us that they would be able to serve up a dairy free venison and red wine pie, with luscious short crust pastry, and a gluten free pie (with mashed potato on top). They were quite happy to discuss the ingredients to make sure that everyone would be fine, and as they make everything in house, they knew what was in them.
When the pies were brought out they looked huge, and nobody thought they'd be able to finish them but in fact most of the plates were scraped clean, except for the birthday girl who was able to take her leftovers home to enjoy tomorrow. Everything was delicious.
The staff could not have been more helpful and attentive and we will all certainly be back. The only negative was that they don't have high chairs but we could have brought a booster seat of our own, so it wouldn't stop us returning.
