This was our second time in Iceland, and we wanted to spend more time riding. We booked the "Day on the Farm" package, which was two separate rides and a simple lunch in between.
Pickup (by the owner) was exactly on time. Once at the ranch, riders were provided with foul weather gear or full body (snowmobile) suits, helmets, and gloves. It was cold out, so the gear was really necessary. Everyone was queried about their riding experience, and paired up with horses.
The first ride had a lot of people, many of whom were continuing on to other tours in the afternoon (Golden Circle or Blue Lagoon). This phase was good, but the larger group was taken on a rather simple route, with a rather workman-like pace. Fun, but not outstanding.
The lunch was simple (tomato soup and bread) but very tasty. Especially good after being out in the windy conditions.
The second ride was on a whole other level. There were only four of us, so we went out with two guides. One had to return after one of the horses started to limp. The other continued on with us on a long ride through streams, up and down hills, finally arriving at a beautiful glade with a waterfall. A great experience.
