Good location and great view from room with mountain view, rooms where basic and staff where polite and helpful. Shops near by and a nice place to eat only 5 mins away and fast food close by also bus stop right on the door stop and was only 300 krona was just right for our age 20-25

We stayed here for three nights during our stay in Iceland on the beginning and in of our trip. The hotel was well situated with lovely views and easy to get to highway for exploring. We had a car so we did not try taking buses. I did notice that the bus stop is across from the hotel and they seem to come pretty regularly. There is a supermarket across the street so we bought food to snack on during our tours. The hotel has a good breakfast -kept me full till lunch and the pub is nice for talking with other travelers at the end of the day. The hotel was well furnished and I loved having a bathtub. One of the rooms even had a small kitchen, which would really help cut down on food costs. Also we arrived early after a long flight from the states and the manager Shaun already had our room ready. It's the thoughtful things like that which make me want to return. I would stay here again for sure. Only regret is we did not see more of the local village where it's based.

We stayed for five nights in April 2014. The hotel is half an hour's bus ride from the centre of Reykjavik. It is surrounded by fast-food outlets. The rooms were clean on arrival but had very little attention during our stay and no cleaning at all takes place at weekends. The bathroom stank of stale water and urine. Lamb soup is on offer some nights but that is the only food provided here (except breakfast) so you must travel outside the hotel to eat, which is fine if you like pizza and KFC or don't mind walking about 10-15mins to the nearest decent bistro which given Iceland's weather, may not suit everyone. The staff were generally helpful and very friendly and were keen to help us with any request.

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your Hotel rooms during your stay .
I have been into the rooms and have asked cleaning staff what was wrong with the rooms and if they were cleaned correct and all seemed to be ok .
We did email you direct and asked the tour operator to email you to be in touch with us so we could try and solve the problem but you seem happy to keep the damaging review on Trip Advisor .
We will do our very best to make sure this problem will not occur again and do hope in the near future when our guests are unhappy with our Hotel rooms ,to let reception know right away while your are still in our Hotel. This way we will try and solve the problem right away as we are not able to do much after you have already left our country .

Best Regards
Shaun

We stayed here for 5 nights from 1st March 2014. The hotel was cosy, warm and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. Our room had a lovely view over the mountains, which we had requested. We had tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The breakfast was basic but good, with a choice of porridge, cereal, meat, cheese and toast etc. The hotel is quite out of town, but that’s what makes it so special. We chose not to hire a car and public transport was excellent. The bus stops right outside the hotel. We booked the Blue Lagoon experience while we were in the UK, you get a small discount, and we booked transfers to the Blue lagoon through the hotel. We booked Northern lights, whale watching and the Golden Circle trip through the hotel, we were really pleased with the tour company and they pick you up and drop you off at the hotel, it’s all very well organised.
Everything went just perfect; we saw the northern lights on our first night! We saw whales and dolphins on the whale watching trip and the sun was shining when were in the Blue lagoon. Would we go again? .. Yes, definitely. We loved Iceland and the hotel and staff made it extra special.

The hotel is basic but most importantly it is cosy, comfortable and clean. With friendly staff and some wonderful views. Although situated a little out of town the bus stops literally outside the hotel and it is therefore an easy 30 minute bus ride to the centre. We booked a couple of the smaller tours and both picked us up and dropped us off so we had no trouble there.

The only thing to note is that the Mossfellbaer area has a lack of restaurants, and really you would want to travel into Reykjavik town for a good choice. There is however a KFC, subway and dominos all within a 5 minute walk of the hotel so you won't ever starve.

Just spent a week at this hotel and no complaints to speak of at all. We were in a large studio room which had basic facilities if you wanted to self cater, double hob, fridge/freezer (which did make some noise) and sink, they also supplied washing up liquid and brush which is unusual but most welcome.
Fabulous view over the mountains from our room and I would say that this is the case for almost all of the rooms due to the layout and location.
Lovely bathroom which had a shower in the bath, plenty of hot water and room was always warm to the point that sometimes we opened the window which let in cold fresh mountain air.
TV had four channels in total and the only English speaking ones were CNN and BBC news. Internet was free throughout the hotel including in the rooms which was another bonus.
Bus stop was just outside the hotel and took 30mins into the centre of Reykyavik, the cost was 350ISK which is approximately £1.90 and they were always on time (no traffic jams there). The ticket was transferable to any other bus so long as you used it within the hour I believe.
Most tour companies will collect you from the hotel and Shaun or anyone else on reception was happy to book these on your behalf or telephone any tour operator if you asked.
Breakfast was a nice help yourself buffet with enough variety to eat something different most days (If you want a full English then stay at home), and due to the small size of the hotel you would always see someone in there to talk to about your previous days adventures or the plans for that day which was nice.
We used the bar in the evenings where a large draft beer would cost 1000ISK (just over £5) which is reasonable for Iceland. Mr Vampire behind the bar (sorry we never did get to know your name) was friendly and had a few good nights in there. They do show football every night on a large screen which can be a plus or minus depending on your views and you could sit away from this is you preferred plus there was another room with a dart board, pool table and some board games as well.
They do not do food on a regular basis but on some evenings there will be lamb soup and bread available for just under £10 which is average for Iceland and you could help yourself to a refill if you wished.
We were not lucky enough to see the lights as the weather was cloudy most of the week, however the coach trip did run on our last night and they did get to see them but sadly we did not go.
Nice hot tub outside, just ask them and they will prepare it for you, the water was a very hot 43degrees but was needed as it was only 8degrees outside. Please note that there is not a swimming pool at this hotel (as stated on Expedia) and check out the hotels own website for accurate description. If you have any queries either before of after you book then just email them direct and they will be happy to respond directly.
Nice bakers/coffee shop over the road and the supermarket sells hot cooked chickens for about 1200ISK £6.25 which went down well a couple of evenings with French bread and fries from the burger place. Also a KFC and Dominoes pizza but we did not try these.
I would recommend this hotel to family and friends with no hesitation as it was clean, warm, friendly and good value for money and yes I would happily return here again.

Room Tip: They all looked fine form what we saw.

We stayed in room 17, a ground floor studio. Was warm, a lot larger than expected, with shower & bath, mini-stove, kettle & fridge. Had a beautiful mountain view & was lovely & quiet, and unlimited wifi is included. The staff are immensely friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. There is a local regular bus service into Reykjavik costing 350 isk (about £1.75 I think), & the tours will pick you up directly from the hotel if arranged through them. My impression of Icelandic people is very friendly, punctual (no transport was ever late!) and they will go out of their way to help you. Our room was clean & very comfortable, the hotel itself is warm and has a happy, family atmosphere, with lots of pictures & objects everywhere. They are very generous with their food, leaving you to help yourself to a buffet breakfast with refills & lamb & vegetable stew + refills. I really loved Iceland and Hotel Laxnes is a lovely warm, comfortable base from which to explore it. Many thanks to Shawn & the staff!
