“Friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Highly recommend this hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Good recommendation for dinner. Was rainy, cloudy and windy while we were there so missed the Northern Lights but an otherwise perfect location for viewing them. Spent our first night in Iceland there and we were somewhat exhausted after an overnight flight arriving at 6:15am in Keflavik. We checked in a few hours early to a warm welcome and a warm dry room... the weather was miserable but we were nice and cozy in our room. Would recommend this hotel to all.

The hotel looks like a modern white motel from outside, but on the inside has quirky features and antiques that stop it from being bland. We had an upstairs room with mountain view and opening velux windows that open out to form a mini balcony. As the hotel is away from the city lights we actually saw the northern lights through the velux windows while lying in bed !!
The room was a good size, clean and modern with nice en-suite facilities. The TV was old and unreliable, when it worked there were 2 icelandic channels and CNN but we didn't come to iceland for TV watching. Free Wi-Fi was a real bonus and worked well. The bed was very comfortable and when we asked for extra pillows they were provided immediately. A kettle was also made available for us. Breakfast was more than adequate, (cereal, muesli, yogurt, breads, toast, cheese, eggs, meats, salad and some really fab porridge.) There is a bar area and a lounge with comfy sofas in the main building but we didn't use these as we were always out. Reception staff were always very helpful, happy and knowledgeable and there is a comprehensive tourist information area in the lobby.
In the local area there's an ATM, 2 supermarkets, KFC, videostore/american diner, burger bar, pizza place and an amazing bakery where you can get a very nice toastie and pastry for £4. The White Knight sportsbar/restaurant also had nice meals for around £10 per head and a nice atmosphere.
There are 2 local outdoor hot baths/saunas in walking distance (£2.50 for as long as you want) and there are walking trails to the beach and Alfoss.

Most day trip companies pick up from the hotel and the no.15 bus goes from outside the hotel into Reykyavik - (£1.70) took about 20 mins and very easy to use.

The only possible negatives if I was being picky were that the window blinds in the room needed attention, but we didn't use them in the end as we preferred to see the stars and the bed linen was also slightly bobbly but considering we had a nightly rate of approx £42 I would say this hotel is an absolute bargain and would be more than happy stay here again.

Convenient location as therd are buses that pick up in front of the hotel that take you into Reykjavik which is nice. There is a great bakery that is a four min walk away along with two grocery stores, gas station, and a couple of fast food places. The location is quiet as well. The staff is awesome. The only recommendation I have is to add a couple of channels to the tv so when you come in from an exhausting day or the weather does not cooperate for your tour you can at least have a movie to watch; dont need 300 channels but 10 would help.

Room Tip: None, rooms are nice

My husband and I with our daughter and boyfriend stayed here for a long weekend. Rooms spacious, comfortable and very clean. Free wi-fi a real bonus as was complimentary use of the pool table. Staff very helpful suggesting sight seeing and routes. We hired a car through the hotel which was reasonable and used the coach transfers from the airport to the hotel and return. Breakfast very acceptable, I read others recommending the Bakery across the road which is certainly worth a visit. We also enjoyed meals at the nearby Sports Bar and the revolving restaurant (The Perlan) in Reykjavik.
We had a wonderful weekend and will certainly return to see more of this wonderful island.

(Stayed Nov 11)

We stayed here in November 2011 and was a lovely long weekend. The hotel helped us set up an airport pick up and although just outside the main city, its easy to get in on the bus. The hotel itself is kind of like a 'premier inn', serves a purpose and serves it well, but isnt anything flash, altough I dont think it tries to be! The rooms are simple and well maintained and the breakfast was a nice selection and cereal, pastries, toast, meats, cheeses etc. There is a supermarket nearby and a couple of restaurants but nothing over the top. So while it is nice being out of the way of the hussle and bussle of the city, dinner may prove a problem unless you're perhaps driving! All in all tho, great get away and the hotel and the staff were spot on!

Hotel Laxnes is perfect if you like to be away from the city. It is about 15 minutes outside the city but with the local bus stopping just down the road and all the organised trip companies happily coming to pick you up and drop you off again its no problem at all. The hotel is very clean and the staff welcoming and helpful. We were on our honeymoon and on arrival we were upgraded to a suite. This was a huge room with double bed, a three piece suite and coffee table and this still left plenty of room, there is also a big balcony to take in the view from, very pleasant indeed. We had a kettle in the room and the staff are more than happy to provide tea, coffee and milk on request. The breakfast is basic but pleasant enough to start the day with, there was fresh tea/coffee, cereal, fresh breads, ham, cheese, yoghurt, porridge. We found Iceland very expensive but a tip for anyone staying here would be to pop over the road to the local supermarket, here you will get fresh sandwiches, pastries etc great to have a quick lunch with or to take out with for the day.

Room Tip: We had room 9.

The Hotel Laxnes is a great hotel to stay in. It has fantastic views and is 20mins to Reykjavik using the bus (number 15) The rooms are big and clean. The staff are first class. They will book all the trips you may want to go on. The trips are excellent value for money. A must are the Northern lights. We saw a spectacular display that lasted nearly 5 hours. The blue lagoon is a great place to relax. Every one is nice and they all welcome you to Iceland. Food can be on the pricey side. There is a world renowned bakery next to the hotel and two super markets, KFC and swimming pool nearby. Thanks again to all the staff. For door to door service Use "IGTours" phone +354 6155416 They can provide all the tours.

Room Tip: Rear room/suite overlooking the mountains.
