“Great basic hotel but quite far from the centre, especially given the cost of taxis.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011 via mobile

We've just come back from a 3 night stay in Iceland. We stayed at the Luxnes.

Pros - friendly service; easy to find, right off the 1; opposite a KFC (?); darker than town so better for lights, great mountain views (ask for a balcony room); great communal rooms (pool table, darts, big TVs, stuffed animals everywhere); very clean.

Cons - far from town (4500 kroner in a taxi or 350 in a bus but they finish early); basic breakfast and basic room facilities.

We knew this hotel was not in the centre of town, and chose it for this reason. Reykjavik is about a 15 minute drive away (we did hire a car) or you can get the regular no. 15 bus. The location, however, is great for getting out to the Golden Circle and sampling Iceland's natural wonders. The hotel itself is great. Really friendly staff and a laid back atmosphere and spotless, large rooms with good heating. Breakfast buffet is pretty good with as much coffee as you can face on a dark Icelandic morning. There are two thermal pools nearby which are great value (400 ISK) and a perfect way to relax in the early evening. Highly recommend Iceland and this hotel. Great value in an expensive country.

Just back from an October half term break at Hotel Laxnes. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed the hotel. We had a family room and bathroom. There was a pool table which the girls enjoyed. We had transfers from the airport and back again which was great as it was 15 mins drive from Reykjavik. If you need a bus take the number 15 just outside the Hotel and it cost 1400 ISK for 2 adults and 2 children.

We did a snow mobile tour, golden cirlcle tour, horse riding and into the city for 3 days. We ice skated, went to the zoo, went to the church, harbour, Perlan, museums and various shops.

Iceland is a great place to explore on your own, but if you do the glaciers you really do need a super jeep so I recommend Eskimos.com as they were the best.

Powell family.

Room Tip: We had a family room so were in the group area and it was so warm and cosy. There was under floor he...

Comfortable and friendly hotel in a perfect position.
For a family of four in Iceland for the first time the hotel was fantastic.
Cozy rooms, helpful staff and brilliant breakfasts.
Every effort made to make guests feel at home.
We were even offered breakfast with a 4am start......... above and beyond!
Thank you!

We stayed here for 5 nights in September. The room was generously sized with a small fridge and stove. Plenty of space to hang your wet hiking stuff (it's true, it does rain a lot - but it was still great). The front desk staff also very helpful, (Shaun is a gem!) we checked in early due to our flight and had NO problem. The towel warmer was a nice bonus, and the views were fantastic. Easy access to Pingveelir, Geysir, Gullfoss even the Blue Lagoon (about an hour away by car). Hearty breakfast and cozy bar. And the bakery is not to be missed, (behind the Bonus market) they had excellent sandwiches available in the morning so you could pack for lunch. Check out the great bistro nested in the Alafoss district, easy walking distance, you could certainly go more than once, yummy roast lamb and good wines. Its also really close to the Laxnes Horse farm where we had a fantastic ride!

Room Tip: We had room 15 which is away from the street and a short hop to reception and dining. Perfect.

Great hotel, lots of character and personal service. Good breakfast included. Close to good hiking routes up Helgafell and Esja. Not much else in the area but does have a good bakery, supermarket, KFC and Subway. 30 minute bus ride into Reykjavik town centre 3 times an hour (bus stops right outside hotel) Happy to organise dozens of excursions for you. Great for viewing the Aurora as it has minimal light pollution compared to Reyk.
Warm and comfortable rooms, will definately return as soon as finances allow!

Room Tip: Beware, one suite faces KFC
