“This charming man”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

Although he spoke no English, Signor Gino persuaded us to have the antipasti, and I'm glad he did. It was beautifully served and extremely delicious. I would recommend it highly, but make sure you are hungry before you visit. If you are a great meat eater perhaps it would not suit you, there being only a single meat dish.

“Excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

We only had room for appetizers, but dinner looked good. We were sitting next to one of two fireplaces. It must be beautiful in the summer.

“Real country style food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Gino the proprietor, welcomes you to his restaurant with much kindness and a gentle smile. Inside, with large picture windows overlooking the town of Ceglie, is a quirky and charming scene. A fantasy of woodwork, all his handiwork, and in the centre a huge fireplace, which is lit on chilly days.
The cooking here is excellent, all home made and served with much grace by two waiters who may have been here since it opened in 1972. The house starters feature local dishes and often include 'wild food' which Gino has harvested. Purslane omelette for instance is a typical offering. The cooking remembers the old country ways of using foraged ingredients which thankfully is here being preserved.
Main courses are mainly meat based, I would recommend the rabbit hunter style, although the mixed grilled meat seems perennially popular. There does not seem to be a wine list, the menu is a set price including wine, water deserts and liquors but seems to be very reasonable for the ingredients and kindly service. Visit in springtime and the restaurant is covered in a magnificent
ancient wisteria, whose flowers also make their way into the food.
