“Everything we could have wished for the perfect honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We stayed there for four nights from November 20th-24th, 2012. After our plane got delayed leaving Santiago, we missed the connecting flight to Balmaceda for Puerto Montt and ended up arriving in Balmaceda 5 hours later than expected. The five hour drive was ahead of us and even though we could not enjoy the views that much because it was getting late and it was drizzling, we ended up making it to Mallin Colorado at around 11 pm safe and sound. Paula, the owner, was there to greet us and guide us to our cozy cabin (Coigue). Each morning, Don Victor (the care-taker), would come into our cabin to re-start the fire so we could wake up to a warm cabin. After pulling up the blinds, the view was spectacular with Lake General Carrera in front of us. Then, a delicious breakfast at the also very cozy main lodge followed where we would always be greeted and served by the friendly chef Miguel and staff (at our time it was volunteer students from Slovakia and Belgium who were backpacking aroudn South America). Paula was extremely helpful providing directions as to where to go and what to do. There is a magnificent hike inside the property about 4 hours long by foot (can also be done by horse) with beautiful views along the road of the glaciers around lake Bertrand and the each time less frequent possibility of spotting a Condor, which we were lucky to do. Dinner at the main lodge was a dream, chef Miguel made delicious meals worthy of Uchi, Feast, Under Belly or other upscale restaurant in Houston, made of four courses and totally worth it for the asked price. The area is just fantastic with less than 1 hour trips to the Marble Cathedral, Exploradores Glaciers and Confluencia. In sum, a great experience and somewhere we plan to return in the future, perhaps for our 10 or 25 year anniversary? We'll see!

It is a bit expensive but 100% worth it. The location is excellent if you want to access driving by the day places as: Tortel, Cochrane, Chile Chico, etc. The view from the cabins and dining room over the lake General Carrera is incredible; the cabins are very nice and well equipped. The owner is very friendly and give a "home" environment to the place. The food is excellent as well.

Room Tip: Cabin in the higher place is wonderful.

We stayed here for four nights, travelling around by car, hiking, and horse back riding.
The place is set in a picture like, quiet setting. The very comfortable cabins are set so that you feel you're alone with the view.
Paula and her staff were very nice and very helpful.
Dinner was good.

Great location and nice food, but too expensive. The staff is very friendly, always willing to help and provide good suggestions for exploring the area. There is a nice hike in the property with an impressive view of a couples of glaciers behind Bertrand lake.
The cabins have a wonderful view of General Carrera Lake, but they are not well insulated and get cold at night (there is a wood burning stove, but it doesn't last all night and the cabin is cold when you wake up in the morning). They are also in great need of deep cleaning as we found a couple of recluse spiders in it, which is dangerous.

We stayed two nights. The attitude of owner and staff was very nice and warm. The atmosphere of the living room and dining room is excellent. Though failures in service ended up making it a not so good experience:
Water heater did not work well as also faucets in the lavatory
No change of wet towels
No key in the door. It remained open at night
Wine and drinks extremely expensive
Food also expensive and average quality.
Too expensive for its current quality
It seems it was a good place before as previous reviews show but not this time.

Dear Eduardo,
we are really sorry for the inconveniences you found in Mallin Colorado last summer. We have considered very seriously your opinion and have already improved our services. But I want to confirm that we normally do not close any cabin, since it is a remote location and there is no more people in the property than the staff and the guests. Have to tell you that if someone prefers to close the door, you just have to ask for the key in the main house. I personally take care that our cook makes the best food, homy, delicious and with natural ingredients.
I thank you for your opinion and promise we are doing big efforts to bring the best service and atmosphere to our guests in Mallin Colorado.
Best regards,
Paula

Its a long trek from Coyhaique, but driving yourself is a great experience. We arrived in time for a brief walk around the main property which is a lodge with individual cabins well spread. The owner is a great source of suggestions which we followed on the three full days we were there. Highlights were the horse riding up the mountain for some really spectacular views - challenging ride but not too difficult for competent riders. The food was very good, augmented with produce direct from the garden and home made jams, etc. a great experience in a wilderness setting.

Room Tip: If a couple try to get the cabin for two - really special!

Beautiful chalets (Cabanias) in a quiet and incredible/grandiose natural environment. Really a place to be to discover the beauty and the atmosfer of Patagonia.
Location allows to perform several excursions in the vicinity. The lodge provides dedicated guides for your journey.
Paula is a very warm and enthousiastic hostess and the food prepared by Don Juan was excellent (the lamb cooked on the barbecue was a delice).

Room Tip: All rooms are loctaed in isolated chalets,
