“We are surprised by all other rave reviews...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

This is the last stop of our honeymoon. Having read great things about Mirissa and Palm Villa, we are sadly disappointed. Are our standards too high? We booked our room 9 months ago, and expressed that we were on our honeymoon. We thought we would get one of the nicer rooms after paying for air con and sea view. Unfortunately our room is small and not overly clean. Our 'balcony' is not separate from the neighbouring room.. Whereas looking around, some of the rooms do have private balconies. Breakfast was average, with great Sri Lankan coffee. The staff are friendly and helpful. The tables are all sticky though. I took a wipe out to clean ours before breakfast but it was not sticky through dirt but the finish on the tables, melting slightly in the heat I expect. It's nearing the end of our 1st full day and I don't think our room is going to be serviced. No one has asked or been in yet. I think the worst thing about our room is how much we can hear from the room next door. You can hear water running, coughing and talking. The walls are very thin. Mirissa beach itself is a massive party beach which we didn't realise, we were told by a tour company that it was not touristy and was fairly quiet. It actually resembles something like Blackpool at night with neon lights at all the restaurants and blaring music.. Such a shame this gorgeous bay has been ruined in this way. We have eaten/drunk in a few of the beach bars and service or quality was found at none. We will not return to Mirissa...

What a beautiful place! Beautiful rooms, great breakfast and the fruit juices are a must-try, probably the best fruit juices we tried in Sri Lanka. Nice service. Great location near the beach where all the fish restaurants pop up at night.

Palm Villa was a treat to stay at, especially being my first place to stay in Sri Lanka. Niko and the staff are awesome, very kind and welcoming. Its in a great location away from the main beach but with a great atmosphere. The garden area is great for lounging and swimming and the food is excellent.

I don't really need to repeat what hundreds of people have said before:
Super friendly staff
Hotel and beach safe for children who can swim
Nearby rock pool with about 20 kinds of fish, 15 kinds of corral, mussels, sea urchins, star fish etc
Great rice&curry (but otherwise the fare is standard beach restaurant)
Rooms are basic but perfectly enough
And don't worry about rooms close to the restaurant area - as this is a family set up, after 10pm the only thing you hear is the sea (+ a gorgeous dog and a kitty quarreling who gets the better sleeping spot)
Little ponds with guppies for the smallies
Grass area for playing
MASSIVE family rooms
A big thank you to all.

This is a terrific place to say. With a terrific staff. And a terrific location. Could I be more enthusiastic? Only slightly: The coffee is terrible and the rooms are rather plain. But the lovely setting at the quiet end of the beach means you wake up in paradise every morning. And the breakfast is fantastic. The rest of the menu is great too.
We spent four nights here and highly recommend this place to families with kids, singles, couples, pensioners, everyone. It certainly seemed as though all walks of life were represented among the guests, and everyone seemed equally happy with their accomodations. We had a sea front fan room and did not miss the A/C at all. There was always a nice breeze from the sea. The grounds are beautifully kept.
Throughout our stay we were made to feel at home. Brilliant staff.

Thanks so much for the four day visit to Palm Villa, we had a great time in Mirissa mostly because of Palm Villa. Location, location, location.... Quiet end of the beach, we had a great beach bar 50 meters to the left and Las Vegas to the right( at night with all the lights) .....Palm Villa, perfect, quiet lagoon for swimming, the food was great and reasonable prices, tables set under the palms for breakfast, what a treat. The coffee though, needs some attention..... and reading lamps in the rooms would be greatly appreciated. We did have an issue with a tunic that disappeared in the wash, they compensated the cost with further to do. All in all, I highly recommend Palm Villa.....

Ranger Bob

Room Tip: Beachfront was nice, there is some noise from early breakfast people especially with small children...

Our family of 5 had 2 nights here in 2 rooms and really loved it. Rooms are ok, though we met people who raved about their rooms so perhaps we were unlucky. The hotel though is so atmospheric and right on the water that we were more than happy with our stay. Food is great, good value and it really is a very special place to stay. Would search forums for best rooms though to maximise your stay. Highly recommended
