“Pleasent Stay at Udekki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We booked for 3 with late check-n on a half board basis for 2 Suite & Sour Rooms. At the last minute a 4th decided to join. When we checked-in late, we were upgraded to a Villa at no extra charge although there was an extra occupant.
We had sumptous dinner fairly late consisting of Lobster, Crabs, Prawns etc etc. Again in the morning the breakfast was sumptous with oriental and western including egg hoppers, a fruit platter etc etc.
Rooms were large airy and clean; Staff and management very attentive and always courteous.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay on our pilgrimage to the St.Anne's Shrine, Thalawila.
Only improvement suggested is better signage on the dirt roads getting to the Udekki Resort at night.

Hi! It was great having you all at Udekki and we're glad you had a good stay. Thanks for taking the time to put your comments on Trip Advisor. We know you came especially to visit St Anne's at Thalawila, but you'll have to come again with your families during the dolphin watching season!
We are working on the sign posting - but we also want to remain a little off the beaten track! There are directions on the website which we encourage guests to download.
Cheers, Glen

We didn't stay here but came for a meal one night and it was amazing - ridiculous amounts of fantastic fresh food including lobster, tuna, chicken, clams, sashimi, you do not order from a menu instead paying a set price and the food just kept on coming! It was amazing, definitely recommended!!

The owners are really friendly & helpful, they helped organise a trip to Anuradaphura on our behalf when our hotel (Palagama beach) wasn't particularly helpful!

The pool and gardens were very pretty but the personal touch of the owners is what set this resort apart from the other 3 in this area.

My boyfriend and I just came back from a fantastic 9 days stay at Udekki. We could not recommend Udekki more strongly after feeling at home in our beautiful and comfortable villa 343, with Glen and Carolyn ready to make our holiday a great experience arranging everything we would need (transport, kitesurfing lessons,..) and friendly and sweet staff preparing amazing food and helping with everything (including landing and launching my boyfriend’s kites at the beach).
Our Villa 343 was huge with a veranda, living room with kitchen, tv and fridge freezer, a patio with Jacuzzi and a big room and bathroom. The whole villa is full of light and is really comfortable. This is not a conventional hotel room but a villa which used to be Glen’s home and it feels like that, home.
The rest of the complex is really nice with a big swimming pool protected from the wind and with plenty of space for all the gests. We spent most of the time in our villa but there are plenty of areas to relax, read a book or just have a nap.
You cannot describe your stay at Udekki without talking about the food. It is delicious (we keep dreaming with it a couple of weeks after coming back) and copious (we were never able to finish everything and believe me we can eat). Glen and his kitchen staff make the best use of all the local produce and specialities. Breakfast consisted of coffee/tea, fruit, brioche buns, coconut crepes, egg hoppers, dal soup, spicy coconut and naan bread. Dinner will include a combination (or all) of clams, crabs, lobster, fish (grilled or in sashimi), chicken, prawns, sautéed vegetables, salad, rice and desert.

We started our two week holiday in Sri Lanka with two nights at Udekki, and it really is brilliant. We stayed in top end places and mid-range guest homes during our trip, but nothing compared to the warmth and hospitality we received from Carolyn and Glenn. It isn't the location that makes Udekki special (though the beach is lovely), nor is it the accommodation (though the rooms are great and spotless, and the pool area fantastic); it's the way you are welcomed and made to feel completely at ease. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is amazing (including if you're a vegetarian) and if you're lucky you'll get to hear Glenn play for you too! Two nights really wasn't long enough so we'll definitely go back, and I highly recommend you try Uddeki for yourself.

Superb location. Glen and Carolyn along with there friendly staff looks after us very well. It was Avery relaxed and much loved experience. We did not have to worry a bit Glenn organised the boat and we were off to see the dolphins. It was an amazing sight and we enjoyed it. When we returned true to the word we got a huge breakfast and it was wonderfully. Crab curry and the batter fried prawns were lovely. If you want to taste batter fried pumpkin go to uddekki you 'll get it there. Aunty Carolyn chocolate cake is feast to remember. All in all it was wonderful.

Room Tip: It's a different type of a concept. Loft is ideal for a small family. But there are lovely rooms...

Glenn and Caroline welcome you warmly to their home. Indeed, before arriving we had a very useful email conversation about the area, the property and which rooms to rent. We traveled with our children who are now quite grown up and the front villa we choose was perfect with two bedrooms (air-con, fan & en suite), a living room and courtyard in between. We really enjoyed the outside space with our own veranda and table where breakfast was served. The pool is a stone's throw away and a 2 minute meander takes you onto the beach.

The staff were excellent and everyone made us feel very welcome. The food was a particular highlight with eggs of your choice - including "hopper eggs" (a local speciality), fruit, toast etc for breakfast proving sustenance for the whole day.

In August the winds are perfect for kitesurfing. The more advanced can kite-surf directly on the beach, but i chose one of the nearby lagoons. Glen was very helpful offering us transport there and back; on arriving back rather tired we were greeted like family, ushered into the pool and supplied with refreshment. The evening meals comprised local crab, lobster, fish, and excellent curries and were served either by the pool or on our own veranda.

Altogether a very special place, in an unspoiled area in Sri Lanka. The local hotels and ecolodges are all low rise but one worries that the area may change over the next few years. So visit whilst the local charm persists.

We loved everything about Udekki and wish we could've stayed for longer. The setting is absolutely idyllic. We stayed in Loft D which was comfortable, spacious and homely. The loft's huge rooftop terrace gave us an amazing view of the gorgeous surroundings. The staff at Udekki could not have been more attentive and friendly. The food here was absolutely unreal and we loved the fact that, rather than providing a menu, the kitchen simply surprises Udekki's guests with whatever is fresh and available on the day - we were never disappointed! As other reviews have said, what makes Udekki truly special is the hospitality of Glen and Carolyn. They are such warm and welcoming hosts who go out of their way to make sure every guest has an unforgettable experience.
