Popped in for Sunday lunch. Immediately noticed an uplift. The ambience was more stylish and loved the huge candles.

The Sunday dinner was very tasty, well prepared and presented. The staff were attentive smiley and personable.

The place has been de cluttered and looks much better.

Would def recommend and is one of best in a wide area

“Great Ambience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

We visited the Rose and Crown on a Friday evening, and were glad we had booked as some people were turned away. The pub itself is in a lovely village just outside of York (about 8 miles) and the décor and ambience were fabulous. Quite eclectic with big candles etc on the tables in storm lamps. There are new people in charge and I understand the chef is the same as before. The menu is very good value for the quality of the produce and we went for the £16.95 for 2 courses option. The fish and chips were probably the best I have had (haddock) outside of Whitby, and the dessert was divine. All in all, a very good dining experience and I hope that it retains its good honest menu and doesn't go all gastro-pub in style. The staff were very friendly and approachable and the minor hiccup with the bill at the end of the night was swiftly dealt with. I would go back again in a flash.
