highly recommended stay in naples! first me and my partner were a bit dissapointed by the location - fabric hostel is in portici, suburban area about 20 minutes from naples. but in the end it was actually great, because we were scared of being in naples after 8pm. moreover portici is quite near-hand pompeii and vesuv, big plus! fabric hostel was great, good staff, clean and trendy room and bathroom (we had double bed shared bathroom) and very nice common room. some advisors here mentioned the bedbugs. our room had no bedbugs, i think bedbugs are not the problem of hostel, bedbugs are the problem of previous guests who brought them in. if bedbugs were the problem of hostel, they would be probably in every single room. it costs the whole packet to get rid of bedbugs! but i wouldn´t have stayed in our room if it had had bedbugs, that´s for sure. near hostel is a market where to buy anything. breakfast is free i think. fabric hostel is cool place, so go there when visiting naples. i really loved it! and pizza in naples? love at first sight. i want to get back once, twice.....;-)
tips: visit naples in autumn- less tourists, good weather, great pizza (every season ;-)), more privacy in hostel (but don´t visit in autumn if you wish to meet new people with your friends)...

My friend and i stayed at the Fabric Hostel at the end of June, 2007 and it was the worst place I have ever stayed at in my life.

To begin with, the hostel itself is very nice. It is large, clean and has excellent facilities such as free internet, a nice common room with a large tv screen, and a restaurant/bar on site. The younger staff are also very friendly and helpful.

My friend and I were enjoying our stay until we discovered bugs crawling in our beds. Not wanting to cause a fuss we quietly told the Manager that we were concerned by the bugs in the bed. He came and looked at them then accused us of bringing them in, in our bags. We had never seen such bugs in our life and most certainly did not bring them with us. As we had no proof that we did not bring them with us (no proof we did either by the way!) we complied with his request that we wash absolutely all of all our belongings (including bags, shoes, everything!), and we were moved to another room 3 floors up.

We arrived at this new room, with nothing but some new spare clothes that we were wearing, and immediately checked the beds. Our new beds ALSO had bed bugs!! We didnt dare tell the Manager as he would have claimed that we took them up to the new room as well! Since the hotel is not near any other accommodation we had no choice but to stay up all night in the common room and not go to sleep. By this time both of us were covered in little, very itchy, bed bug bites.

After doing some research on the net (while we were pulling this all nighter) we learnt that the only way to get rid of bed bugs is to get a professional exterminator. Merely spraying around bug spray as the Manager did will NEVER get rid of them.

Bed bugs are a common problem in hotels, so Managers should be better aware of how to deal with them and not accuse the customers of bringing them in. It turns out we never saw another one when we left, and there were absolutely none in our stuff. We also met a group of 4 a few days later that stayed at Fabric before us and were covered in bed bug bites as well.

If it wasnt for this experience I would have rated the hostel highly.
