“Third visit in three years - we hope for more in the future”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2009

As part of our annual vaction on Vancouver Island, we make a point of visiting this beautiful, modern B&B in a quiet secluded setting. It is perfect for a quiet "wind-down" before the start of another busy year.

The bedrooms are large and well furnished and the featherbeds provide for a wonderful nights rest.

Breakfasts are creative and extremely well prepared. The dining area overlooks the pond and there is always a variety of birds to watch while we enjoy our breakfast.

Joan and Chris are always cheerful, interesting and welcoming. They have been and extremely helpful in advising us on the excellent dining that is available in the area.

We have been staying in B&Bs for over 25 years and this is one of the best!

My Wife and i stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and it was exceptional.
Very nicely done colors and furniture, the bed was so comfortable and the breakfast was amazing, Joan and Chris were very hospitable and made us feel at home. Definitely coming back in the near future, Maybe our 2nd anniversary!

From the carefully considered setting to the contemporary designer decor to the luxurious breakfasts to the friendly and helpful hosts, Ambraden Pond provided an exceptional start to a week-long holiday exploring Vancouver Island. This custom built B&B is nestled on a secluded lot that is well located to nearby communities for those looking to explore local wineries, markets and cheese shops. Local must sees include Amuse Bistro, Blue Grouse Winery, Hilary's Cheese, True Grain Bakery and the Kinsol Trestle Bridge.

On our warm summer days, a relaxing dip in the pond was a welcome treat. The design of the house consciously separates the hosts from their guests providing privacy or conversation when desired. Its contemporary decor and immaculate housekeeping make it a notch well above and beyond what is typically found in the local B&Bs. Breakfasts were generous and expertly prepared - and kept us going almost all day (we regret not taking pictures to prove to friends what we were treated to).

Overall we were sorry to leave and cannot recommend it enough. We will certainly be returning.

On a recommendation from friends we reserved one evening at Ambraden Pond and wished we'd arranged a longer stay. Both of the suites we booked were very well appointed and spacious. The accommodations were wonderfully decorated, clean and comfortable with a delicious breakfast to set us up for the day ahead. We would highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable friendly stay on Southern Vancouver Island. There are some excellent restaurants and wine tasting opportunities in the immediate area as well as the ambiance of just relaxing at Ambraden Pond with a good book and watching the deer and birds. We're looking forward to another visit to enjoy a leisurely paddle across the pond and perhaps some combined cooking classed with Chef Bradford Boisvert at Amuse which is where we enjoyed a superb dinner experience while staying at Ambraden Pond. Thanks to our hosts Joan and Chris for making our stay a memorable one. :-)

We recently stayed at Ambraden Pond for 2 nights while traveling on Vancouver Island. I cannot say enough about this place.... From the wonderful Inn Keeper, to the beautiful property and sophisticated decor to the gourmet breakfasts each morning, this place got it right!!!

The house faces a private pond. We sat alone on the dock and had wine and cheese, and ate our delicious breakfasts facing the pond watching herons fly about. It was so quiet and peaceful, we were so sad to leave and cannot wait to come back again someday!

This B&B is located on a beautiful large acreage at the end of a private drive, overlooking a huge pond.

We have never stayed at a B&B, opting usually for 4/5 star hotels when we travel. However, Duncan, where our son's provincial basketball tournament was being held, has none of those. So after a friend recommended we search out accommodations in Cowichan, we came across the website for this B&B plus many others. We opted for Ambraden Pond based on the photos and description. We usually rely on Tripadvisor to verify what is advertised, but there was no review, so since we liked what we saw we went ahead and booked. Well, we could not have been more pleased and can tell you that everything was exactly as advertised, if not better.

This is a beautiful custom home built as a B&B. The rooms are large and well separated from the owners wing, had their own seating areas, as well as enormous en-suites with deep tubs and separate showers. Everything from the flooring to the towels, to the bedsheets and furniture were contemporary and of a high standard. Unlike some of the other B&B websites we looked at, there are none of the doilies and furnishings that would make you feel like you were at Grandma's house which kept us from trying a B&B before. Just for the guests, there is also a separate living room where breakfast was served next to a huge picture window overlooking the pond.

Our schedule was indeterminate because of our son's tournament and practice schedule. Our host, Joan, was very accommodating and had breakfast ready each day at different times. We were greeted each morning to the smell of fresh coffee that was being poured as we descended the stairs. Then, seated by the window, Joan served eggs benny and fruit one day, an enormous apple pancake (too big to finish) with bacon the next and a delicious fritatta on our last day, always accompanied by juice, more coffee and friendly conversation and advice about the area.

It was too cold during our visit but apparently there is great swimming in the pond and some floats with deck chairs for lazing around. Cowichan is a beautiful rural area with wineries and farms and a nice fishing village at the bay. Driving around, we saw quite a few other B&B's. One feature that the website doesn't really point out is that Ambraden is totally private, well away from neighbouring properties and away from any roads, making it feel like your own resort.

A great spot, with excellent breakfasts and friendly hosts, this would make a fantastic weekend getaway from Vancouver or a good base to explore the valley and island.
