“A pleasant retreat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

After an exhaustive tour of Europe, we travelled south along the Amalfi coast to this lovely hotel for respite. It was just what we were looking for, no children, no hustlers and very peaceful. Nicely isolated and minutes walk to the main town, the staff, 'il capitano' and Alessandro were ever so helpful in making your stay as comfortable as possible. With the coast line virtually at your feet we found our stay very relaxing.

If you want to have easy access to the sea this hotel fits the bill (25m to the sea). The pool is nice but is often full of children and elderly people doing their morning excercises. Staff is very friendly, breakfast quite modest even compared to italian standards. Wifi is easy accessible even in out first floor room - maybe our room was close to the router. The area around the hotel is quiet and do not be disturbed about the surroundings, it's a mixture of run-down buildings and Calabrian charm - it is just Italy as it once was. Few foreign tourists, just italians.

Room Tip: Ask for sea front view

We just finished a four day stay at the Sea Palace hotel on the coast of Calabria in a delightful town called Fuscaldo Marina. We found it lovely. The beach goes on for miles and there are lounges and umbrellas so you can take in as much sun as you like. There were one or two Moroccan vendors that came by during the day but nothing to bother us and we enjoyed talking to them. The Sea Palace had a great kitchen with wonderful brioche for breakfast and my husband had bacon and eggs (we are American) and they also had a complete selection of beverages including two kind of juice, yogurt, toast and all kinds of jams. We mostly ate out in the town during the day (be sure and stop in at the pasticcheria which is fantastic) but we did have a great lunch and several course dinner at the Sea Palace with it's windows facing the sea. We enjoyed our room with French doors also opening to the Tyrrhenian Sea. This hotel had a lovely blue tile bathroom with shower, plenty of hot water, and was nicely appointed. There is an elevator to your room, a bar in the lobby of the hotel where you can have a drink while you relax and check your email and surf the web. You can also get reception out on the patio and around the beautiful blue tile pool that reflects the sky. We heartily recommend the Sea Palace to anyone who wants to sample Old Calabria in a newer setting. Nicola the owner is a very charming host and we found that anything we asked for was delivered with style. It is a perfect base to explore the surrounding mountains and cities. The Sila which has some of the oldest virgin forest in Europe is within a day drive. My cousins from California met us there and were equally impressed. We travel often to Calabria and we will be back again.

Room Tip: Room facing sea and listen to the waves at night

We arrived worn out from a very long journey and were greeted by friendly Teresa at the desk(she was the best member of staff along with one of the waiters)She also spoke English which was helpful.
Rooms were very small but extremely clean.Shower was tiny and so am i, so any one large would have difficulty. The terrace was wonderful though with gorgeous sea views. Not enough drawer space for my clothes though.Air conditioning was hit and miss-was regulated by hotel reception not as individual rooms.
Pool was fabulous-deep and refreshing and clean.Had shallow end too.Beach umbrellas-not happy with set up.The umbrellas directly in front of hotel were for locals so had to share with three star hotel(Sangrila) next door. They were at the back of the beach too which is not ideal in Italy as it gets too hot.No beach bar either which is unusual for a four star. The sea as usual in Calabria is amazing.
Plenty of parking available.Restaurant was ok-not really upto Calabrian standards-did get better towards the end of the hols though. Some people did complain but it did improve.Salads were fantastic.Wine was lovely. We were never hungry though.
Fuscaldo itself was very quiet and small-Paola is the place to go for some life and culture.
Overall it was a good clean base but to me was more of a three star.I wouldn't really go back unless everywhere else was booked up.Excellent value for money though.
