While working in the area, some colleagues and I dropped into Killeen's for a late lunch. We were only hopeful of getting soup and sandwiches but were pleasantly surprised to find a small menu featuring typical hot pub food. However, what arrived was far from typical - freshly made quality food with a bit of flair. My meatballs with fresh tomato sauce (daily special) was worthy of any restaurant - really fresh and tasty with a hint of lemon zest through the meat balls. I tasted the sauce with the chicken curry which had a lovely fruity, coconut flavour - again fresh and homemade tasting. It is simple unfussy pub grub but much tastier than the usual pub fare found in rural Ireland. Lovely looking pub too - would love to spend an evening there. Looks like the kind of pub that is genuinely central to the community.
If in the area, try it for lunch and maybe stay for drinks 'til late!
