Friendly staff, great air conditioning, clean rooms, comfortable enough beds, lots of hot water. For Mrauk U, this is a reason to celebrate. The breakfast is basic, but they cook eggs to order along with toast and fruit juice. That's more than enough for me. I never expected a buffet in such a remote location. There is a great family-run restaurant a short walk down the street called Moe Cherry; we ate there three nights in a row--highly recommend.
It is also the best located hotel in town. An easy walk/bike ride to many temples/pagodas and the community watering hole for evening photography. If I ever returned to Mrauk U, I would be happy to stay here.
The internet is pretty nonexistent, but that is not the hotel's fault. There is essentially no internet in Mrauk U. I had a smart phone with MPT (the government cellular network) and had email and internet all the time in Mrauk U. Getting CNN and the NYTimes on my smartphone was a breeze. So, if you can't stand to be disconnected, pick up a Sim card at the airport and be online the entire time you are in Mrauk U--although you will miss the incredible, mystical environs in the land that time forgot.More
