“DO NOT PASS THIS HOTEL....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

As an organiser of a classic car group,,I booked this hotel for our weekend run and it was absolutely brilliant to say the least. From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff were highly efficient and the food was excellent. We had a evening meal booked for 7pm but it was almost 8 before we all arrived in the dining room and there was no pressure from the staff.
The indian waiter(unfortunately,I did not get his name)was the most pleasant person I have met in a long time and could not have been more friendly. The rooms were excellent and a great night was had in the lounge afterwards with sandwiches, sausage rolls & cocktail sausages for everyone at around 11.30pm..Breakfast was great next morning which set us up for the rest of the day..Thanks to Johnny and his wonderful staff,we hope to get back again soon.

Stayed over at a recent wedding, the rooms to put it mildly are of a very poor standard, Similar to something you'd have seen in Fawlty Towers. This hotel is crying out to be modernised. The same drab decor throughout. The curtains in the room didn't even cover the window so come sunrise at 5.30am you were wakened from what was a poor sleep in an uncomfortable bed to begin with. At €90 euro for the room it was very overpriced as there is much better quality local to the area, a B&B would beat it hands down. Food was beautiful on the day but I have dined here before at a different wedding and it was very poor to put it mildly so take your pick... Given the selection of hotels that are available in the area I wouldn't be rushing to stay here. If you want cheap and cheerful go for it, if you're looking for a place with a touch of class about it keep on driving

The Strand is a great hotel! My husband, 2 daughters and I stayed here for the weekend. There was a very nice atmosphere in the hotel with friendly staff and happy guests. The staff were very accommodating, food was lovely and good value. Ballyliffin is worth a visit!

Room Tip: Rooms at back are quieter

So straight to the points:
- Location is nice, Ballyliffin surrounded by nice beaches and interesting places to visit
- Food was good for this class of hotel
- Rooms are clean, nice view on surrounding mountains
- All hotel staff was very friendly and extremely helpful
There is a lot of local stuff going on in the hotel bar, so looks like place is loved by Ballyliffin community.
In overall was very good experience and considering good value I am giving five stars in overall

Just back from the Strand, had a great weekend! Room was clean and had a great view overlooking the ocean. Food was great and good value. The hotel was situated in a good area as there were lots of places to visit and a beach not far from the hotel. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting that area and we wish to visit it again.
