The Witch and the Milkman is probably one of the best restaurants in Northern Israel. Their dishes span from vegetarian options to meat and fish. The setting is a wonderful wood cottage overlooking Mas'ade village from the top of the hill of the gem village of Nimrod, in the Northern area of Israel Golan Heights. Interior design mixes rustic charm with cosiness, creating a lovely mountain-like atmosphere resembling that of a chalet somewhere in the Alps.
Despite its location, deep in the interior of North Israel, the quality of their fish dishes is exceptional. Their "Red tuna carpaccio" served on a bed of rocket and aromatized with lime and wild mint, was as enjoyable in its fresh taste as simple in its preparation.
The baked trout I asked for as my main dish, was perfectly cooked and served on a mustard-based bed of sour cream with a side taste of sunflower salad and four small baked potatoes.
My partner instead opted for a pork steak which was soucy and perfectly prepared.
A single first or second main could be filling enough by their own to leave just a place for their delicious grandma-style apple cake, or other home-made desserts.
They also offer a good menu of wines, wich prediliges local wineries but also includes other excellent non-Israeli names.
For a meal of a fish appetizer, two second mains, a dessert accompanied by a glass of wine, our bill ranged up to 250 NIS: an excellent price given the quality of the food and the facility.
Check also their daily menu, written on the blackboard on the rear wall (in front of the entrance). Staff is generally English speaking and very kind.
Highly recommended during late fall / winter / spring time for either friends dining or a romantic dining. Perhaps also an optimal option in the winter, coming back from a ski trip to the Mt. Hermon (which is 20 minutes from the restaurant).
Booking is recommended.
