“Party of 16 Feb 2014”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

My main reason for picking this restaurant was the fact I knew it could handle a big party of people reasonably well, I have eaten here on and off for the past nine years, but never with a group of people this big.

The most difficult bit was order taking, the food was excellent, - soft shell crab being one of my favourites, as well as sea food salad,

Overall the meal went well, with the average cost per head around 800 baht, we were almost the last people there at 9pm. I have tried most of the sea food places along the zoo road next to the sea, and I still find this one the best

“Good food, great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

There are a few big restaurants near the Palai beach (go to Phuket zoo and continue after the zoo till the end of the road).

The first one (Pla Rai) is the busiest one and is also a good choice, the last one (Phong Phang) to be avoided as they are a tourist trip letting you pay double the price and rewarding taxi drivers for taking you there.

But this time we visited Tang Kae. It is a very large restaurant but only 1 other table was occupied. We had a wonderful view over the beach.

All food was good, not great. But prices were very reasonable

The crab fried rice was better at Kang Eng 2, Squid with salty eggs could have a bit of vegetables, the clams in chili sauce were very tasty, the seaweed soup could have a bit more flavour but overal we had a nice meal in a quiet atmosphere with friendly but not too knowledgable staff.

Be sure the point out that you like your food spicy if you can eat this as they would standardly tone it down.

Very good Thai food with a stunning view. Local place, but very charming. Low prices and high quality on the food. We will come back!

“Awesome seafood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Excellent seafood in a good location. This is a big, mainly out door area by The north shore of Chalong Bay. A bit outdated but the food was sensational. We ate BBQ Lobster, chilli mud crab and chicken pad thai. They were all very good. Best lobster ever eaten. The service was ok. Our driver preferred we went to the restaurant next door (called phong phang or something like that) but were recommended to go to Tangkae by our accommodation manager. We later found out, drivers who take customers to phong phang receive a free lunch. All seafood is kept live in tanks at Tangkae that you can view as you walk into restaurant. You could pick from the tanks and watch it get cooked if you liked. Doesn't get any fresher than that.

“A delicious seafood restaurant in good price!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

We ordered two tiger pawns, two "lai liu" pawns, two big crabs, one big fish and vegetable and a fresh conconut, total
cost 2,200 bath. The seafood is alive and you can pick it on from the water tank. The seafood in phuket elsewhere is frozen, not allive.Tangkae is very near to Phuket Zoo and easy to find.
