“What a lovely surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We were working in Costa Rica and supposed to stay here for two weeks, but it was booked. So we only had the opportunity to stay here for two nights! Of course, now we are hopping for an assignment to come back here so we can stay here again.
As everyone has mentioned, the gardens are beautiful. We took the time to follow the trails through the gardens. Dinner was lovely. Breakfast was fine. There is a lovely gift shop, and the person in the gift shop was lovely -- very helpful and fun to talk with her.
There is no A/C in the room, but we stayed there in July and did not seem to need any. Each room has a small balcony with chairs overlooking the gardens. Lovely.
Our only negative was that near the hotel lived a barking dog. The barking dog ruined the ambiance for us each night. I am not sure if anything could've been done about it.
We would still return and give it another chance!

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the gardens

We only spent one night here, but loved it and would definitely stay again. Ten acres of gardens was the main reason for booking this stay and it did not disappoint. I spent a few hours during the afternoon enjoying the serenity of the gardens.

Our room was large, two double beds with balcony overlooking the garden. The bathroom was very clean, great shower.

If you are interested in birdwatching, this is a great place for your first or last night fairly close to SJO. Early morning taxi took about 20 minutes, plan on longer with more traffic. Checking out does take some time, so plan on that.

One of the loveliest hotels anywhere at a great price. The most incredible gardens anywhere, a great place just to be quiet and meditate. Beautiful views. Nice pool. Good for a couple getaway and for meetings. Great beds.

Best part of it is the cheerful staff. They will make anything right. It seems like you "make their day" just by being there and enjoying their service. But they aren't all over you trying to please you. It is the perfect balance. I want to go back.

Room Tip: Both sides are good. I would choose Mountain view, because you can always walk to the garden/

My wife and I love to get-away to Hotel Bougainvillea. The Santo Domingo Heredia area is lovely and the climate cool and bright. We enjoy playing tennis and taking a dip in the pool. In the afternoon we stroll the gardens and pick a corner where we can enjoy nature and a good book. The hotel has excellent service and the meals are always a treat.

Set in lush tropical gardens teaming with birdlife an amazing and totally safe environment. Staff were excellent and all spoke very good English. The food was first class with the same for service. Also very helpfull in getting hire car to the door and directing to out of the way places! Would say this is one of the best hotels in Costa Rica.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden room....the views are amazing. But all are non smoking!!

We had a lovely one-night stay at the Hotel Bougainvillea in Santo Domingo de Heredia. The gardens are more beautiful in person than they appear in any of the promotional photos. The staff at the front desk and restaurant were very friendly and helpful, and the room was very nice. The one thing I didn't like about the hotel is the travel agency. The agent was very unprofessional and didn't seem to know anything. As I sat there, she cracked her knuckles, bit her fingernails, twisted her hair, and had to keep calling people for advice. I finally made some calls on my own from the room and got tours, etc, lined up. I think it's too bad that this nice hotel doesn't have a better travel service on the premises. Otherwise our stay would have been perfect!

Room Tip: Don't pay for package with breakfast included. You can order a small breakfast that includes cof...

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on our services. In order to correct your bad experience and preventing other clients from suffering it too, we would like to know the date and time (if you have them) you contacted the tour desk. Since there are two girls working different shifts, we would like to address the correct one. Please send us your reply, if you may, via email (leduarte@hb.co.cr) so we can take the necessary actions discreetly. Again, thank you very much for choosing Hotel Bougainvillea for your stay.
