“A Very Good, Basic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We have stayed at the CJ two times in the past. Then, it was a bit "tired" looking, and in need of updating. Still, the service was good, and the place was very clean.

When we returned this time, we found the same very clean lobby and restaurant/bar, but were pleased to find that we were in one of the rooms which had been renovated. This made for a much more modern feel to the place.

While the room did not meet the "luxury" hotel definition, it was spacious, and contained two (comfortable) queen beds, a desk and large LCD TV A comfortable club chair for sitting, and two straight-back chairs (for writing at the desk, etc.) It also had a coffee-maker, and small refrigerator. The bathroom was decent-sized, and nicely appointed with thirsty towels, a few toiletries, and modern sink, fixtures, and shower.

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, as was the waitress (Diane) at the breakfast buffet. Breakfast buffet was included in our room price, and we were also given a 15% discount card for dinner in the hotel (either in the restaurant or bar).

Our room was on the second floor, facing the parking lot, but it was quiet, and also carefully lit (as in: we had no problem with any outside lighting filtering into the room at night.)

If you want a room with a view of the river, you'll need to ask for that.

There is also a small, outdoor patio in the back, with umbrella tables where you can enjoy drinks and snacks from the bar in nice weather, while viewing the river.

All in all, the CJ is a pleasant place to stay during a visit to Joliette.

Added as a P.S. : The hotel is a non-smoking one, but there are areas for smokers just outside the building, front and back, but far enough away from entrances so as not to offend non-smokers.

Room Tip: Again, if you would rather look at the river than the parking lot, be sure to ask for that when you...

First of all, it’s not really a Chateau, just your regular hotel. It has a government-issued 4* sign at the front. It is within walking distance from downtown and overlooks a waterworks park (old mills).

We stayed over the weekend in room 409, which had two queen beds. These were platform beds and couldn't be moved or pushed together. When selecting a room, keep in mind that even numbers face the river and odd - the parking lot. Further, X17 is right across from the elevator. A single elevator could be an issue during peak hours.

Our room was basic with a desk, a chair, a chest and a nice size LCD TV. The AC seem to have a mind of its own despite two controls on the wall and one directly on the unit, it would just keep on blowing at regular intervals (unless completely shut off). The windows did not open.

It feels like the hotel is in the stretched out renovation process, resulting in some strange design choices: mix of shabby '80s and modern, for example, modern brown tiles around an old bathtub.

The hotel seem to target business conferences (was hosting Target career fair while we were there) and weddings. There is also a nightclub in the lobby, which is open (and jumping) till 2 am. Although, being on the fourth floor facing the parking, we could not hear anything.

The breakfast is fairly basic but well laid-out. You do need to ask for your eggs, unless you want the standard scramble. The hotel seems to host a weekly Sunday brunch for the city’s high society, so you get some interesting people watching in the lobby.

Room Tip: Even numbers face the river and odd - the parking lot. Further, X17 is right across from the elevato...

Dear Guest,

We hope that you had a good stay with us.

To add some precision to your review, we are currently under renovation for the rooms. During summer ( high season) it is more complicated to achieve those renovations. But don't worry, all the rooms will be decorated as the same. In the rooms, for security reasons, windows can't open.

For the ground level floor, we do have conference rooms, that can be rented for weddings. We take time to inform our guest for those events. For the nightclub, it is our bar located also on the main floor. On Fridays, we have a DJ that host a dancing night.

Thank you for you comment and we hope to see you again.

The hotel is situated next to a nice waterway a shirt pleasant walk away from a very pretty downtown in a nice historic city.
You can't expect to travel so far and expect the "same as home" service, food, etc... So I didn't.
Being an English visitor, it was nice to have bilingual service throughout my stay. I did try my French as much as I could, as should you, I recommend.
The room was very clean, if not entirely modern, but comfortable. The a/c was working hard but maybe not having as much success as I would have hoped.
I was not uncomfortable and I slept well.
The restaurant has fantastic foods: venison, filet mignon, duck etc...
Thank you for a welcoming and comfortable stay.

I had already visited this hotel in the past and i'm very glad to see how it's changed.
Rooms are being renovated, its restaurant's menu is soooo good! Real "fine cuisine"!
The staff was very kind and helpful! I have an excellent stay! I'll be back soon!

Had a great say at Chateau Joliette. The hotel was in great shape. Staff were very helpful and fluent in both French and English. The rooms were good. The laminate flooring was a little strange but maintained. The beds were very comfortable. They provide a full breakfast for each with the room.

Stayed here wile visiting again, I knew there were no pool so cant complain about that. The location is ideal for my needs during my stay in Joliette. The coffee in the room is below for my Barista standards. Did enjoyed a good breakfast after my nights rest. Overall I had a good stay.
