We arrived with high expectations to the supposedly best restaurant in Hungary – and had a good lunch. They have a nice terrace with a huge sunshade, it was very pleasant. The Cream soup of leavened cucumbers with bacon crumbles was piquant and fresh, the Hungarian fresh curd cheese and red onions with caraway seeds was superb. The Hen broth Újházi-style was disappointing; the meat was not as tender as it should have been. I had the Wels catfish goulash stew with cottage cheese and sour cream enriched pasta, it was fresh and tasty, but I prefer it a bit spicier. Others at the table had the Roast lamb with green bean stew and polenta with Hungarian fresh curd cheese, which was good, the Saddle of venison (deer) with seasoned sweet pepper and roasted potato dumplings was absolutely out of this world, deserves ten points out of five; we’ll return just to have it again. The Noodles with roasted cabbage was nice, the Floating Islands excellent, the plum cake (daily special) was a bit too dry.
All in all this is a good restaurant with some good and some excellent dishes, good service, but even at this level a bit pricey.
