We stayed in the Long Bay for three nights (definitely too short a stay!) and loved it.

It took a full day to unwind and get into the pace of Antigua; when we first arrived we weren't sure what we'd do there for three days, but by the end we were dying to stay longer. The views of the beach on one side and the dock on the other are absolutely outstanding; they really do look exactly like a postcard.

As commented on by others, the cocktails by the beach are great and the bar staff are fantastic. In fact, all the staff were cool and took the time to stop and chat with us (although never in an intrusive way).

Food was tasty, fresh and substantial, especially the breakfast. There's lots of fish, which is to be expected for Antigua, and it all seemed absolutely fresh (and delicious). I seem to recall some vegi options too. Snacks by the beach were great too.

If you're into watersports, Long Bay is a good choice; they have a wide range of things available in the hotel (sailing, snorkel equipment, boat trips etc). Unfortunately we were only there for a few days so didn't get a chance to try anything but snorkeling, but that was amazing; the beach is reef-protected and has lots of fish in knee-deep water. On the other side of the hotel, the dock area is great for swimming since it's a little deeper.

In high season they apparently have a scuba instructor onsite who operates from their own dock; since we were there at the last week of the low season he wasn't available. However, the staff organised a local dive for me and even drove me to the dive centre (thanks Dave!).

A couple of caveats: at the time of year we were there (very end of August) we found the room hot without AC. We were however provided with an additional fan which cooled the room enough to make it comfortable. Apparently this isn't a problem for most of the year since it's cooler.

Also, keep in mind that the rooms are not 5-star luxury; they're really comfortable but in a local style, so expect tiled floors and the occasional gecko on the wall. Many people will see this as a good thing, but not everyone.

Overall, this is a great place to go and unwind. There is no way you could be stressed after a few days in Long Bay, although you may gain a couple of pounds. We'll definitely be back if we can make it to Antigua again.

My wife and I spent a week at Long Bay Hotel and didn't want to leave. Everything is so perfect that it is hard to pick what part of it is the best. The friendly staff, the location, the relaxation, the world-class snorkeling, the food...Every aspect of this hotel is top notch.

After reading the previous reviews, we thought this would be too good to be true. My wife and I kept thinking there would be a catch and that something wouldn't exceed our expectations, but there was no catch. It was paradise.

If you are reading this review, please don't just trust me... read the other reviews too because they all recommended this hotel. Most even mentioned they would be back, which says a lot. Most people who travel want to visit new locations each vacation, considering all the choices out there, but this place is so special that it makes you wonder if it's worth the risk. I've lived all over the world; Indonesia, Norway, Germany and many places in the US; my wife has traveled extensively as well. Long Bay Hotel and the staff will hold a special place in our hearts for making our trip a vacation of a lifetime.

Just a bit about the hotel, you walk into the lobby of the hotel and you will be greeted with a warm smile. You will walk to your room past what almost looks like a forest of tropical plants and trees. The rooms overlook a beautiful teal bay. The breeze is amazing from the water. The bay is quiet, so your mornings (and evenings) will be peaceful. At night, you'll the tree frogs will lull you to sleep. The lobby and dining area are elegant and wonderful. Sometimes you forget you are sitting inside. There are plants and beautiful flowers. The beach is amazing. It's where the locals want to be! Snorkeling was amazing. We saw an octopus, eels, colorful fish, beautiful coral, spotted eagle rays, flounder, and a bearded fire worm, just to mention a few. The water is warm and wonderful! We usually find ourselves a bit restless after a day or two in the same location, but not here. We could have spent every day just sitting at the beach, enjoying the water and the sun.

This is the type of place where you feel at home. You feel the staff are friends you've had for a long time. I felt like I was staying at a friend’s guest house, rather than a hotel. It was amazing.

My thanks to Chris the owner, Dave the manager, Sandra, Gary, Sam, Sasha, Henry, Charlie, Vonet, Leona, Thelona, Violet, Althea and Diane. We can't wait to come back and see you all!

If you decide to take a trip by taxi while you stay I would highly suggest taking a taxi cab ride with Kenneth Childs. The hotel will know who he is.

We spent 10 days over easter at the Long Bay Hotel and stayed in the View House. It was simply perfect for us. The beach is exquisite, the accommodation is spacious, clean and comfortable. It is not high-end luxury and the bathrooms are pretty tired but this did not matter to us - everything worked fine. The food was lovely (altho' we would have like more carribean specialities), and the staff were incredibly nice (thank you Sandra, Sam, Chris and Sasha). Our children (3,5) had the time of their lives - and learnt to swim. We also saw quite a lot of the island touring by taxi with Ken, a really interesting guy and great company. Holidaying with young children can be a challenge but this ticked every single box and we are desperate to return!

My husband and I spent a night at the delightful Long Bay Hotel earlier this month (5/4). I was awed with the beautiful view and location. The staff did their utmost to make our visit very comfortable. I felt as though their friendly and helpful service was sincere and that they truly wanted us to feel at home and well cared for.

I loved the casual, but well thought out personal touches and details that made the hotel such a pleasant stay. This is not a cookie cutter hotel, it has it's own personality that shows the pride of ownership. It's more like an inn or B&B, except that it has all the amenities that a full service hotel has. There is a "great room" with a full library and games galore including board games, ping pong and pool. We didn't play tennis, but walked by the court on our way to the beach, which is just steps away.

There was a welcoming package with little goodies, sodas and rum in our room to greet us. Ice was sent to the room without having to ask for it, another indication of anticipating our needs. Our room was nice sized with comfortable chairs and a four poster bed, but I could hardly wait to go out on the deck which overlooked the bay. The view is a knockout.

The hotel provides snorkeling gear and there are other watersports activities available. We only had one day to spend there, so we spent it on the beach, in and out of the incredible turquoise colored water. We live on the west coast, so that beautiful, clear and warm water is just hard to believe. The bit of energy that we worked up allowed us to paddle out to snorkel from shore. The hotel's open air restaurant and bar by the beach allowed us to lunch in the sun while not missing a minute of the beauty of the area.

I am a travel agent and am always on the lookout for unique properties for my clients and our personal use. This is a spot that I would definitely recommend and return to with pleasure.

Superb service, lovely views, great snorkeling. We had a very relaxing week.

A minute's walk to a great snorkeling beach (see photos I'll post). Free use of snorkel gear, sailboats, and other gear.

Long Bay includes dinner (be sure to ask ahead if you would like a vegetarian meal) and breakfast, both superb. Nice games room and library. We both loved Big Sam's rum punch.

No phones, no TV. Very quiet. Most rooms are right on the water.

We enjoyed a walk to Devil's Bridge (bring a hat and something to drink) nearby. There's not much else within walking distance, so if you like getting around consider renting a car for the week or (as we did) getting a one-day tour of the island.

A couple of things to note:
- Despite the signs saying Long Bay is an eco-resort, I didn't see much evidence of that -- not even compact fluorescent bulbs.
- We found no working cash machines around the island. You can get an advance on your credit card at a bank (slow) or at the Long Bay desk with a surcharge.

We're thinking about next February already...
