“sunprime kamala beach resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

It was a very nice resort - kids under 15 were not allowed to stay and hence the "family" outing crowd was not there - just couples from various countries :)

a nice soothing, value for money property with several swimming pools, very close to patong, yet very quiet and enjoyable.

highly recommended.

Room Tip: pick one of the pool facing rooms

Just spent three weeks at this lovely hotel the restaurant and bar staff were so friendly and the food great. Located about 20 minutes outside Patong just perfect as it is surrounded by hills and the beautiful sea and set in a lovely bay but if you wanted to see some nightlife or shop it wasnt to far away, we where there from 3rd oct before the high season started and for us it was perfect as you could see by our third week the sunbeds and vendors had started to set up on the beach, there was a village a short walk away which was nice. Would love to return.

Liked this place. Good value, comfortable rooms, excellent restaurant location, very friendly staff and rigt on the beach. Well kept grounds too. I would also recommend the Dragon Bar just outside for a right old knees up. The band will love you and encourages participation.

This resort would have to rated no 2 in Phuket...no children under 15...we stayed in a grand deluxe pool view which is in the newer part of the Resort...saw a couple of the rooms in the older part which were a bit musty...stayed here for 10days after spending 10 days at the Resort from hell in Patong...left here totaly relaxed...5 + to most of the staff around the resort ( restaurant staff need a bit more people skills not a criticism just an observation and does not take away anything from this lovely Resort)...rooms are a good size, plenty of hanging space...everything lovely and clean...so many pools to choose from, plenty of chairs around the pool you could go down any time of day and there would be space for you...just a short walk down the beach to restaurants and to Kamala village...the hotel runs a shuttle bus to Patong and Phuket town for a modest price....you can pick up a local bus at the Tsunami memorial...these buses go to Phuket town,Surin Beach and Patong 30bhts each way pp and what a great way to travel with the locals...breakfast sensational lots of variety and if you wanted something they didn't have they would do there best to get it...a great restaurant in town which is not on tripadvisor is "Oiy" family owned highest standard of cleanliness cold beer and great menu at really good prices...don't go here for seafood as they specialize in Thai food...lots of other great restaurants along the beachfront and in kamala village...also just a short walk to Fantasea..we had a small problem on our last day when the water pump failed and we had no water for showers etc...this was rectified quickly with alternate arrangements for showers...the managment were very concerned and did compensate for our inconvenience this still takes nothing away from the Resort as this could happen in normal living...Kamala Beach Resort we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: choose grand deluxe room as these are newer

We've spent a long weekend in Phuket and stayed at Kamala Beach Resort (Sunprime). We had an excellent stay with very nice and helpful personnel as one key element of our experience. Food wise only tried out the breakfast buffet but it had a good selection with both western style and some Asian dishes, not to many though so Asian travelers may be a bit disappointed. We loved the egg and omelet station. We got a fantastic deal on a jr suite for app S$100/night, no brekki included. Room was spacious and had two bathroom a huge king-sized bed, guess XXL version, and two sofabeds. Very clean when we arrived and they kept it on a very high level throughout our stay. This time of year it is low season so the hotel were only utilized to 25-30% which made it very quiet and the majority of the guest were 50+, no party place but perfect for a relaxing stay. Drawback was that the number of restaurants and bars open on the beach was few and most of them closed early, around 10pm. Upside was that beach was not crowded at all and fast n good service at the bars and restaurant open. The beach itself could be cleaner, a pity that they don't put more effort into this topic. We are not pool-people, like to dive into the sea, but quite a lot of the guest refereed the poolside. Watch out for the "early birds" (who goes to bed around 9pm) who places their towels at the sunbed around 8am to secure a good spot at the pool. Food and drinks at the beach was generally inexpensive, a small bottle of beer from 50, glass of wine from 95 and food from 70-80 and upwards, all in bath. You will get very good massage around 300bath for an hour, they have apparently a cartel going on in this area since they all have the same price, regardless if you have it on a bed at the beach or in a more upscale house close to the beach w A/C.
Taxi's have also created a cartel, this one is very bad since the price for a drive suddenly becomes quite expensive, a 7-8 minute drive to Ban Thao beach is 400bath. Unless you rent a car you totally depending on taxis, at least we did not find any public transportation easy to use.

Room Tip: A poolside room has very nice view, can maybe be a bit noisy during high season due to partying peop...

Quite frankly I can't knock this resort. The rooms are lovely, the beds are amazing, the location is fantastic and the food is great. Kamala is a bit on the quiet side but thats what you're lookinf for you won't find anything better. There is a strict NO CHILDREN policy so bare that in mind if you have kids. Loved it here and just what we needed before we went backpacking through the rest of the country.

Would definately look to going back when we next had an opportunity!! We enjoyed the warm hospitality, the lovely breakfasts, spacious and modern rooms and fantastic swimming pools! We went at a quiet time and were able to enjoy all the facilities without too many people and could even extend our checkout time by 2 hours which really helped alot!
