“A charming oasis in the tea estates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

We had a wonderful albeit far too short stay at Rangala House on our whistle stop 10-day tour of Sri Lanka with our family in August. The outlook from the veranda is stunning, the rooms impeccable, and the friendly and engaging hospitality extended by host Anthony was well received. By far and away and without a shadow of doubt the food at Rangala House bettered anything served across the range of hotels and restaurants we went to. We had a lovely walk in the hills around the tea estate for a couple of hours. Wished we could have stayed longer here.

Had a stunning view - the best I saw on my 2 week stay in Sri Lanka. A beautiful (giant!) garden, full of exotic flowers and a gorgeous pool! A big veranda, really gave us a space to appreciate the 40 mile view. Tea plantations were very close nearby, meaning we could go and appreciate the hard work that goes into a cuppa! The food was amazing, freshly made, with great service! Out of all the hotels we went to (including mount lavingne hotel, the gateway, and the queens hotel) Rangala house definitely had the best food!

Our family of three stayed here for three nights but we could've easily stayed here for longer. The view is absolutely gorgeous. There are walks you can do through surrounding tree plantations. The pool was a godsend for our swim-loving daughter, 6, and the gardens are beautiful and well kept. Sebastian, the cook, will cater to your dietary needs and boy can he cook! Amazing food and very filling. He even made a beautiful lemon soufflé made of soy milk for our daughter, who is allergic to dairy. I loved having my afternoon tea on the verandah, reading my book and staring out at the hills and also watching the sun set. The staff are super friendly and discreet. There are two rooms in the main building with views and a large communal living room with a fireplace - which was perfect as it was quite cool when we were there. Our daughter opted to practice on the electric piano rather than watch TV. Such a perfect place to enjoy nature and really chill out from the hustle and bustle of life.

We sadly only spent two nights in this absolutely amazing place - our dream house. The view from the rooms and the veranda is absolutely stunning and so relaxing. We had some great walks around the house in the various tea estates. We also visited one neighbouring low key tea factory where we were warmly welcomed and got to discover the PF1 tea.
Considering that Rangala is relatively secluded, we had breakfast, lunches and dinners cooked by Sebastian and his team. They cooked a delicious mix of local and western cuisine with fresh local ingredients.
Overall, Anthony is a great host and we could get a very pleasant home feeling though we are French and Italians.

This place is absolutely wonderful I cannot over estimate how fantastic the view and location are. Stunning. Our room had huge windows overlooking the tea plantations. It's not a brand new property but it is full of character and is comfortable and clean. The food really makes this place, it was delicious. We were really well looked after by all of the staff, they made us feel incredibly well looked after - cant thank them enough. They provided us with information on a couple of local walks and we asked about visiting a tea factory, the guy in charge called the owner and arranged for us to get a visit that day, was absolutely brilliant. We loved being in the hills and although the weather was pretty atrocious, it didn't even matter. Thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable. Would go back tomorrow.

My husband and I spent an amazing, 2 nights ( not long enough) tucked away at this paradise. Woken in the morning by the sun rising over the hills, a view to die for, and the addictive sound of the variety of wildlife talking to one another. The food and service was spot on, we had the best curry of our lives here!! Anthony the owner was on hand to give advice on walks around the local tea plantation and nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you so much for such a memorable first couple of nights in Sri Lanka.

I went to stay at Rangala House about three weeks ago and greatly enjoyed it. There are two enormous rooms with good bathrooms. The service was unobtrusive and helpful. The food was delicious. And the views were magnificent. Anthony is an intelligent amusing host for whom nothing is too much trouble. We visited Corbett's Gap from there and the Knuckles and the tea estates - it was a perfect base.
