“A warm welcome, a comfy bed and a hearty breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. All aspects of our stay were faultless. Clean rooms , plenty of towels for all the family, ample tea , coffee etc, with the added bonus of a fridge for fresh milk just along the corridor. We all had a comfortable and peaceful nights sleep followed by a fabulous freshly cooked piping hot breakfast, with endless top ups of drinks and toast. The whole experience was exactly what should be expected from a bed and breakfast. Well Done Frances. Keep up the excellent work.

I have visited The Old Bakehouse on many occasions over the past ten years-usually to chill out-never disappointed.
Very informative website.
Frances puts a lot of thought and effort into ensuring that her guests are well catered for-nothing is ever too much trouble.
Her cooked breakfasts are superb.

We were looking for a nice place to have a quiet relaxing couple of days away to recharge our batteries, the Old Bakehouse was recommended to us by a friend, so we thought we would give it a go.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Frances (the owner) who made us feel so at home and it felt like we had known her for years. The Old Bakehouse is charming and very very clean, the room we had was excellent and very comfortable, and even the addition of a guest lounge and also a room with a fridge and other facilities for the guests was great. Frances was also very helpful in recommending places for us to go for meals in the evening, and the places we went to (The Habour Inn, Axmouth, seaton in particular) we really enjoyed our meal.

The breakfast at the Old Bakehouse was fantastic and really did keep us going throughout the day! As others had recommended the poached eggs I thought I would give them a try. I was not disappointed, "Lovely" :-)

The surrounding area is really beautiful with lots to see and do. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Donkey Sanctuary (We have never seen so many Donkeys in our lives) and also the Lyme Bay Winery (The sampling was pretty good!!)

Overall, if you are looking for a really lovely, quiet, relaxing time then visit Frances as the Old Bakehouse, Colyton, you wont be disappointed.

We spent one night here and it was wonderful. Very friendly, comfy and clean. Nice with parking possibility, good breakfast and it was good situated on our way to Conrwall. I can really recommend "the Cobblers" across the street for dinner as well.

Wow, what a stay, what a location, ...and what a breakfast!!!!! From the moment we set foot in the Old Bakehouse we were made to feel at home, and for those with children, you will know how comforting that is. Frances (owner) is so much more than accommodating, she brings a warmth and happiness to this beautiful old building, and has filled it with all the tools to cater for young and old alike.

The area is packed with places to visit, amazing scenery and things to do, in particular, for those with children, Pecorama at Beer, a great place to let the little ones run off some steam! Beer is a beautiful little seaside village with a great pub who's garden looks over the sea, great for a cold beer on a hot day. Take the tram (station, a short walk from The Old Bakehouse) from Colyton to Seaton, great fun, the kids will love it.

Back to the breakfast - gotta try the poached eggs, fantastic, best I've had anywhere I've stayed. I couldn't recommend this place anymore, area and B&B alike. Beautiful.

We could not have asked for any better service. The owner is the most accommodating and warm person. The Old Bakehouse is around 400 years old, with many original features. Due to the age of the property you can't expect it to have all the mod cons but this is more than made up for with outstanding cleanliness and comfort. You don't have any of that horrid long life milk in your room either, instead fresh milk if available, as is a fridge for your use, which is essential with young children. The owner is incredibly welcoming to young children with the provision of comfortable & clean high chairs, travel cots and even child friendly cutlery, plates & bowls. The location is perfect, you don't have to be in the car for an age before getting to a variety of locations, another plus with young children in tow! I particularly liked walking up to the tram in Colyton and taking a ride to Seaton (something I would recommend also).

The Bakehouse is so beautiful and in such a lovely part of the country. The Old Bakehouse itself is clean, spacious, comfortable and inviting. Frances gives a lovely welcome and there is nothing she is not willing or able to help with. She is also great with children which was great with the 4 we had with our party :-) The children were fully catered for and loved all the games and toys available...they didnt ask for the TV once! The breakfast was fab....the best ever. Great access to surrounding areas such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Seaton (great to get to by the tramway in Colyton) and Lyme Regis plus many others. We didnt have enough time to do it all! Great value for money. Cant wait till we come back! Thanks for a marvellous stay :-)
