We were lucky enough to stay at The Menjangan. Situated far from the tourists sites, the trip is still worth it. We arrived at almost 11 p.m. and were still greeted with a warm welcome by the staff members. The Tower is quite dramatic in the dark, and even more beautiful in the daytime when you can see the balcony. We stayed in the Beach Villas, and it's quite a trek from the tower, but they provide bikes or you can call for a double-decker golf cart to pick you up. The property is so large you really can't see where the other rooms/lodges are located. The beach isn't a swimming beach, but there is a jetty where you can swim and snorkel. Our room was enormous and fantastic: comfortable bed, double sink, an outdoor toilet/shower with fancy stone tub, and a deck with a giant pillow and folding chair.
There are plenty of activities: Bird watching, hiking, a spa and even a small dive shop. It's the only shop closest to Menjangan Island, a lovely dive spot and virtually no other divers. I wish they had more clients. Herme is the instructor, but it was nice to have a local named Komang as my dive master.
We prefered the restaurant on the beach, and breakfast at the Tower. It got a little hot for dinner at the Tower. The food was terrific, and it was surprising to see the selection of wine (a Nero d'Avola on the list!) and western food, but have the Mie Goreng or the Nasi Goreng. Save some room for the black rice pudding and Balinese coffee for the dessert.
I don't have any real complaints. The WiFi is pretty weak at the villas, but it was nice to avoid the internet frankly. It's certainly not cheap to stay there, but i've seen some discount deals online since.
Best staff ever. Gracious, friendly, patient. I should have taken their photos, they were that great.
If you plan on going straight to the resort from the airport, be mindful of the time you arrive at Denpasar! We got there at 4:45 in the afternoon, and with the combination of rain, traffic and driving in the dark, we arrived super late. It's long trip, and also it's apparently quite scenic.
Ask for the Beach Villas. There are only 7 I believe.

How wonderful that you enjoyed your stay with us so much. Thank you for all the important details in your review, we appreciate always when guest are aware that we don’t have a white sand swimming beach like in the South of the island. The Jetty is, as it was for you, for most guest good to enter the clear see and snorkel along our house reef. We have taken the liberty to forward your entire review to our family, the dive and snorkel team…bet how happy the kitchen team was once more…it is a great motivational factor to read such reviews!
We hope you will find your way back soon since we are already waiting for you to visit us once again!
Best wishes from your forest family!
