“Lovely long weekend but cottages need updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

We spent the Labor day weekend at a 2 bedroom cottage with some friends. The cottage itself was a good size but it desperately needs an overhaul.
Other than that everything was great!
The lake is shallow with a sandy bottom perfect for the young kids in our party. The sandy private beach was perfect for lounging. There were canoes and cayaks and pedalos to take out. Each cottage has a gas grill so we BBQed for dinner.
The waffles Scott makes are the best part of the breakfast (included with the room).
Scott and Penny are wonderful hosts. They make you feel welcomed and bring guests together with a nighlty bonfire (don't forget the marshmallows).
While in the area check out Henrietta's bakery for some delicious deserts.

Unbelievably bad.

Booked a "beautiful suite with king bed, jacuzzi tub and fireplace"

right...

-nobody at desk, had to call hotel to check in. ("ring bell for service" does't work)
-towels were well beyond their end of life, and one had blood stains on it.
-coffee pot was full of mould.
-cleaning supplies left on shelf.
-TV / cable didn't work.
-dust covering everything in the room.
-carpet was filthy - clearly they never vacuum under the bed.
-fireplace pilot light was shut off / didn't work
-fire extinguisher hadn't been inspected since 2007.
-sink made a wretched smell when water was turned on.
-terrible shower.

tried to discuss issues with manager but he hung up on me.

top 5 worst hotel stay of my life.

We had stayed here when it was Norloch lodge and loved it. now? disgusting. Too bad - lake of bays is amazing,

Avoid. i have a video i'd upload if this site allowed it.

We were looking for a quick weekend get away and were extremely pleased with our time at Bristle cone lodge. Penny and Scott made the place feel like home. They were always available if we needed any assistance. The room was clean and although the resort was filled there was always lots of privacy and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
We had access to canoes, paddle boats and kyaks.

Perfect place to swim, fish and canoe- or just relax on the deck,

We will definitely visit again.

Stayed here on Aug 9th for two nights and didn't feel to go back. Scott's waffels for everyone made a perfect start of the day, and penny as well was very friendly to all guests from germany swiss and U.S. and ofcourse Canada on that weekend. Great place to spend your holiday with this lake front property with a private sandy beach, we will come twice a year for relaxing from our busy schedule. At last but not least, Don gave everyone an exciting sailboat ride all day and that was an added bonus.
Thanks to Scott and Penny we appreciate your hospitality

Room Tip: "CHAMMERI" Closest to the water Perfect lake view and private parking

Great night sleep on a very comfortable mattress, air and all. Waking up to excellent coffee in the dining room. What a start. Penny and Scott are very welcoming and makes you feel at home. Lots of activities at your disposal, fire made for you at night to go with the beautiful sunset. Definitely will see you again. Louise and Diane.

Great place for a family stay, it is ideally sited for Algonquin Park but also has a lot to keep you entertained on the property if you just want to chill for a few days. Fancy a lazy paddle on the lake, or a swim, or have a barbeque and sit around an open fire for the evening? Or there is a games room if you want to be indoors.

Rooms are comfortable rather than fancy, but after a hard day trekking in Algonquin comfort matters more.

We stayed at the resort for 3 nights (Dec 30-31 '11, Jan 1st '12).

Our room was the chalet suite B8 (king bed and jacuzzi) and we felt it was very comfortable and clean. The fire place added a nice touch considering the cold weather outside.

When we initially booked the room there was no breakfast included. However a few weeks before our trip, Karen, told us that she has included one breakfast with our stay.

To our (pleasant) surprise, when we arrived, we were told that we will have (free) breakfast for all 3 mornings that we are staying with them. Needless to say this made our trip that much better as we didn't have to venture outside the resort to have our morning meal.
On top of this the breakfast was cooked fresh each morning and it was quite delicious.

The view, at least in the winter, is amazing and the location is perfect (very close to Algonquin).

All in all we had a good time and we will most likely return here in the future.
