“Disappointed - and cold!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We drove out to The Lamb under recommendaion for Sunday lunch. Several friends have said how good it is. Now I am not one to post poor reviews but I have to say we were disappointed. We chose the traditional Sunday lunch and although "good enough" and plentiful - it was expensive indeed for what we got. The bill came to £70 and although that included four alcoholic drinks and we don't mind the actual sum at all if we get what we pay for, this was NOT value for money. The veg were very undercooked, the beef good but the yorkshire puddings dry and burnt. There was not enough gravy. The puddings were ok but rather than home made (treacle sponge and bread and butter pudding) had a definite shop bought feel to them. We did eat towards the end of lunchtime but expected better quality. Also it was a dank and chilly day very windy outside and the dining room, to the rear of the Pub in an extension, was really chilly. I had to eat with my jacket on! There were other diners also complaing about the cold - and they were all hardy, walking types!
On a plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful, really smiley which is always good. Sadly however we shall not return.

Had a fantastic weekend celebrating my partners birthday. The hotel is situated in an idyllic spot within good driving distance of all beauty spots of the Cotswolds. The staff were very accommodating, rooms were finished nicely and really clean. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was fantastic I would definitely recommend eating there!!
All in all fantastic stay, highly recommended.

We spent our honeymoon here beginning June 2013 - and had an exceptional room of a very high standard. breakfast and evening meals were delicious and great attentive service. beautiful location, ideal for exploring further afield. bar very friendly and made to feel very welcome. All staff were very pleasant and would do anything for you. Can't wait to return for another break.

Sandra and James Williams, Luton

Room Tip: we stayed in the Windrush suite, in the attic, great view overlooking garden.

Chose stable room thinking it would be quieter than above the bar.
Looked forward to our overnight stay, weather was beautiful but room could have been better,it smelt rather stale and could do with a good airing and removal of cobwebs on lampshade and window!Dont choose room 11 as next to side entrance with cold room fan humming all night and gate noise and wheely bins outside, also where smokers stand!!
Food was okay we had lunch and I had light lunch charcutiere, cheese was dry and sweaty, please cut fresh not a day before! evening meal, starter took over half an hour to appear think they forgot about it, staff pleasant but could do better, main course was supposed to have salsa verde and saute potatoes but came with salad leaves and cauliflower puree instead which I had had with my starter with no apology or explanation.

Room Tip: Dont choose stable room!!

We visited the Lamb over May Bank Holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday. The pub is beautifully situated in a picturesque village and the staff were very friendly and welcoming from the outset. Everything was very informal and we were not required to pay any deposit and ran a bar tab which was very convenient. We stayed in the Burford suite at the front of the pub which was perfect - spotlessly clean, comfortable and very large bed. The bar and restaurant are very cosy although perhaps a more varied selection of ales on tap would have made our evening drinking more interesting. The menu was varied and well prepared and our only complaint was that we had to wait nearly an hour to receive our meals on the Saturday even though the restaurant was not busy. We didn't really receive an explanation but it appeared that we had to wait for one particular waitress to take our order who was busy elsewhere. Overall though we would thoroughly recommend The Lamb and enjoyed our break there.

Room Tip: It is worth upgrading to a suite as these are far superior rooms

If you need to be in a town with things to do, Great Rissington is not the place to be. The Lamb Inn is the ONE place for food and drink in town (town consisting of maybe 30 homes) and because of that, you have the pleasure of hanging out with the locals in the small pub at the Lamb.

Don't let the notion of a pub at the Inn scare you. It's a quiet place, with just a handful of tables, friendly people, a hospitable staff and everyone greets one another with a smile. Beyond the pub, there's a more formal dining room that looks onto the back garden.

The rooms are thoughtfully updated, clean, comfortable and offer a great night's rest. It's so quiet, you can hear the birds singing in the morning.

Each room is unique and varies in size. Ours had a small bathroom that had been updated with imagination, taste and simplicity so as to make good use of space.

We spent three nights at the Lamb. Our days we used to explore the Cotswolds by car, and this was as fine a touring base as any.

Bourton on the Water is just 10 minutes away, offering more dining options without having to put up with the bustle of the tourists it attracts.

We were told that many people return to the Lamb Inn year after year, and we believe it.
