“Sapana Lodge Chitwan Wonder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2009

What a wonderful place! Sapana lodge must be one of the nicest most restful places on this earth. The rooms are basic but very comfortable, the food is wonderful and nothing is too much trouble for Dhurba the owner and his staff, they are all so kind and helpful.
We had a great time washing the elephants, stalking Rhino and spending time with the local Thuru people. All together an excellent experience and to top it all 20% of the income on some of the excursions Dhurba donates to improve the lives of the Thuru people. Will most definitely be returning there.

“Great place and lovely rooms”

Beautiful rooms and lovely location with a lounge next to the river.
The room and bathroom are very big and convenient. Lovely bed. We found it very luxurious, after the hostels in Thamel. The lodge has a nice restaurant and the staff is very kind and will help you organise your day programme. They offer very good options, for example jungle walk and elephant safari!

“Great place!”

We visited Sapana Village Lodge as independent travelers, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. We selected it because we were attracted by the variety of interesting programs available, but it's also a lovely place to stay with great food and a marvelous staff. You can arrange a multi-day trek or take part in cultural or nature activities. We did a bike ride to a community forest, a dinner with a Tharu family followed by an overnight in a jungle observation tower, and a conoe ride/jungle walk/visit to the elephant breeding center. Our guide was excellent. They also have jeep and elephant rides or it could be a good place to kick back for a couple of days.We talked to a couple who did a 2-day jungle trek, and they thought it was wonderful. It's located by a Tharu village, which is interesting for walking around on your own. It's walking distance of Sauraha.

“Highlight of my trip to Nepal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2009

I also stayed here as part of GAP's Delhi to Kathmandu Adventure. What a gem in the midst of the Nepali countryside! Our accomodations were basic yet comfortable and staff was amazing! I got very sick here and the owner of the hotel stayed with me most of the night to make sure I was OK and then also brought me toast and bottled water as I got better.

The restaurant is great and we enjoyed all our meals there. The range of activities is phenomenal. I did the elephant ride, elephant bath, and a trip to the elephant breeding center. There were about 3-4 pages of other activities to do that involved interacting with the local people in their everyday lives.

This place is very eco-friendly and does its part to give back to the community by providing jobs (to both build and staff the lodge). They also have the local women make all the textiles for your room. You can also buy their handicrafts. I came home with a bedspread, place mats, and a purse.

I would come back to Nepal just to stay here. The patio overlooking the review is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon.

  • Liked — Everything! The staff, the location, the activities
  • Disliked — No phones in room or and limited Internet access (which can be good as another traveler mentioned!)
