We stayed here for 3 days on a business convention but like many large hotels these days they fall just short of the mark at times being able to offer the service they claim to offer.
Staff were welcoming and our room was ready when we arrived. Our room was pleasant, but not large, and we did have a 'view' over the mountain in the distance. Interestingly this room was only able to be accessed by an outside walkway and I could not help wonder how I would stay dry if it decided to rain?
Internet access was poor and very slow.
We took breakfast in the restaurant on the terrace. This was pleasant, but I would avoid the blue corn and pine nut pancakes - they are dry and really it does not offer anything special.
While we were there, there were also several other large groups on conferences or social events taking place. The hotel made no effort to inform us these were also occurring. A wedding group arrived and we suddenly found whole sections of the hotel was closed off, with security personnel ensuring that other guests did not accidentally go out on the terrace. In fact having gone out for a walk down to the river we found our way back into the hotel was barred because of this event and we were told we had to walk a very long circuitous route, in the heat, to the back of the hotel via the swimming pool area, through another conference event - clearly it was okay to walk through their event- to gain access. We found this quite unpleasant as we too were paying to use the facilities of the hotel to find they were now not available. Another conference group decided to have dinner in the adult pool area which resulted in this being closed from early afternoon while the hotel staff got it ready. There was no notification to guests that the pool would be closed or even it was closed - they just told people to leave and started setting up.
The hotel is a good 30 minutes from Albuquerque if you want to go into town or out for a meal. A car is essential there is no way of getting around this.
The food in the restaurants is adequate to good , even in the very expensive Corn Maiden restaurant. The second restaurant used for breakfast and other meals had a nice location and you could sit outside which in spring was nice. However we ate there on the Saturday evening, and the staff were pushing hard the 'buffet' that they have on a Friday evening according to their menu. At the prices being charged I did not want to have to get up and serve myself, even when we chose desert from the menu, we were told to go and look at the buffet. The food here was the usual fair you can get in most places, and nothing you would highly recommend to others. There was little choice for people who were trying to eat healthily.
Also remember if you a leaving early for the airport in the morning and you have had your valeted make sure you inform the hotel the night before, the hotel valet is not available at the time, searching for your car in one of the car parks would not be an option, however they will park your car in the forecourt ready for you.
