“Beautiful Desert Haven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

If you want to get away from it all and enjoy Native-American inspired peace and quiet, this is a great place! About 1/2 hour from downtown Albuquerque, I thoroughly enjoyed my week-end stay here. The staff was by far the friendliest and most helpful, from the pool attendant to the bartender to the shuttle bus driver. Beautiful lobby is lodge-like with jigsaw puzzles and board games. Rooms are clean bit a bit worn compared to other Hyatts of the same genre (re: Hill Country Hyatt near San Antonio) and the bathrooms were a bit dated, but functional. They need new towels! The hotel is wide, spread out, and adobe style, blending in with the scenery. We enjoyed the pool and the hot tub, and kids were enjoying the water slide. We followed the walking paths several times around the property, enjoying views of the Rio Grande and golf course. Restaurants are OK but resort-pricey; we stuck with to-go salads and sandwiches from The Trading Post or delicious sandwiches (BBQ turkey) at the golf course for lunch. You really do need a car here, if you want to go off property and see the sites. Upsides - staff, grounds, the calming pipe and flute musing playing in the background, challenging golf course will ribbons of green grass amongst the scrub (I only lost three balls!) Downsides - pricey food for the quality (skip the breakfast buffet for $19.02 !!! including tax - average quality and food was not hot), very scratchy towels for a hotel at this price point, and an in-room scavenger hunt to find outlets to charge electronics. I unplugged the lamp and clock radio to charge the phone and I-Pad; then, when I woke up in the AM, saw an outlet built into the side of a table. Not intuitive...All in all, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: People complain that it is 'spread out' and 'a long walk to the lobby'. That's...

The hotel is very large and far-flung (your room could be pretty far from the lobby and meeting area) but the staff and facility are excellent. There are gas-fired fire pits all around the property and its isolated location gives it a "back to nature" atmosphere. Good food, great bar and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Unless you like to walk with your luggage, ask for a room near the lobby.

The location is great. You are away from the roads, surrounded by what looks to be a nice golf course, and yet 5 minutes from a casino and 10 minutes from some decent restaurants and a major highway.

The staff is really nice.... and they have that Ritz Carlton "my pleasure" response down! And the property has some beautiful walks all the way down to the Rio Grande river.

As you walk around the main areas in the hotel, they pipe through a great fragrance... not sure what it is (mesquite?).

But the rooms are in need of a freshening up... hard to put my finger on it but they just looked a bit tired. Bathrooms in a standard room were a bit small and did not seem to ventilate well. The spa, while nice, has limited facilities (steam, sauna, hot tub, small relaxation area, great massage though). We did not eat at any of the nice restaurants there, but the bar/lounge charged just exorbitant prices for single malt whiskey. Waiters and bartenders were great servers, though.

You are about an hour from Santa Fe when you stay here. Maybe my expectations were too high, but on balance, next time I go to Albuquerque area, I would look for a new location.

WOW! What a joy to spend three nights at this hotel. the rooms, food, service, and general ambiance was just what the doctor ordered. The rooms were clean and quiet. The furnishings were up to date and the beds very comfortable. The mountains were breathtaking! The restaurants offered a wonderful variety of foods. I certainly want to return again and again.

Room Tip: Fourth floor facing the mountains - the views are memorable.

The Hyatt Tamaya is an ideal location for a get-a-way or a corporate meeting where you want to focus your attendees on the meeting's agenda. The hotel staff could not have been nicer to our group and the food and beverage was outstanding. As we saw the same bartender each night at our receptions, she remembered your drink of choice from the previous evening. Guest rooms are comfortable. For me, my only issue was that my AT&T mobile did not work in my guest room.

A beautiful location-perfect for a relaxing getaway. Everything from the gorgeous views to the music and aromas adds to the tranquil feeling. I feel everything relax as soon as I walk. Up the drive. It's a bit out of the way but the shuttle is quite accommodating. I highly recommend The Range off the property for New Mexican fare.

Tamaya is our local getaway... relaxing, great staff, excellent facilities and beautiful surroundings. Room service breakfast was excellent this morning! Hot, delicious and complete. It's one of the best options if you are travelling to New Mexico and want a quiet relaxing place to decompress (that is not in Santa Fe). It's isolated - but that's the idea.
The breakfast buffet is also one of the best we've had.
By the way, we've seen Bald Eagles in the bosque on our hikes.

Room Tip: Get a first floor near the pools if you have kids. Third and fourth floors facing the mountains hav...
