“So relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2012

As a solo traveller with family on the island, this was a perfect spot to relax and unwind at any time of the day. I stayed for 2 weeks and would stay there again any time. A great central spot to use as a home base. A car is needed to get you to all the great restaurants, sightseeing, and beaches. High Holdings is clean, comfortable and breakfasts were just what I needed. Caecile and Peter were thoughtful, warm hosts. Thank you....see you again.

“Always a pleasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2011

I have been taking my elderly parents here for the last four years. Always so good to step through the doors and feel yourself relax. It suits us well. It is quiet, clean and very comfortable. We each have our own rooms and bathroom. There is a wonderful warm breeze and a nice little splash pool to dip into to cool yourself down. It is ideally located to be a short distance to which every direction we wish to go. Peter and Caecile are wonderful hosts, always helpful. Caecile is also a wonderful cook. Holetown is about five minutes away by car.

Check out High Holdings web site.

“Best spot to unwind you could imagine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2010

Along a small road about ten minutes from the beach, High Holdings is a spotlessly clean guest house with a large en suite room and free TV and Wi-Fi. Although you could rent a small car from the owner and explore Barbados, I preferred to spend each day lolling on the large open deck, reading, enjoying beer and pinot grigiot, and dipping into their 'plunge pool.' Looking out from the deck, cascades of green hills head toward the Caribbean Sea. The only sounds you hear are breeze through palm trees and birds. A proper English breakfast is included in the very reasonable rate; you keep your own tab of an equally reasonably priced bar; dinner is available nightly for about $30, which is much less, and the dinner vastly superior, to what's available in town.
If you MUST be within walking distance of a beach, High Holdings will not be right for you, but to be honest, the beach is not all that spectacular, and the road running alongside the beach could be anywhere in Florida, with traffic fumes, tacky souvenirs and overpriced restaurants.

“A Different Taste of Barbados - it pressed all our buttons!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2009

Having stayed on south west coast for a week we looked forward to 4 nights inland, for a bit of quieter down time, though we had enjoyed ourselves. It was fantastic and within minutes we both thought "we should have come sooner!"
You must visit their website it is reliable and factual- photo's are bob on!
Peter and Caecile are great hosts, and having spent many years working in UK and travelling have returned to Barbados where Caecile was born. So plenty of tips/info available.
Caecile is a very good cook, breakfasts are included - basically anything you want, and dinner at extra charge, just give her some notice. She will try and meet any preferences you have and produce 2 lovely (large portions) courses Peter is also a great host, and both seem to be up and doing very early, without intruding, or unsettling you - now thats a gift! You may see the grandchildren in passing, and they were so well behaved!
The house and gardens are beautiful, really, every morning I rose early to just sit out and watch the wildlife whilst sipping tea until Mr Sleepyhead got up. The gardens are smallish but look over a forested valley, no noise but what is natural.
The plunge pool was lovely, early morning dip (me) or after a day out and about.
Everywhere is so accessible from here, preferably with your own car, and Peter has one to hire. Or will help you out re transport. We went off in every direction and Holetown and Speightstown, North Point and East coast so easy. We loved having a car, little traffic and if lost direction (often) just stop and ask. Easy access to supermarket for shopping for picnics/gifts etc. It is very handy for Holders where we enjoyed a musical night ,
and of course they know all the local back roads.
Our room was not ensuite, but large with plenty of storage, but we had sole use of a closeby bathroom across the hall - no problem as no one else around, think there may be a small single room available too, often given over to children/singles? If any complaint a new bath/shower would be good, but all worked ok.
All kept VERY clean and comfortable - lots of towels, robes etc. The whole house is so inviting and great terrace outdoor space.
There is a beautiful ensuite room, we were happy with our room, but when - notice WHEN we go again, I would book this one.
Both of your hosts have a lot of experience of their own, of grand hotels around the world,
but seem to know what a real holiday break experience is about , without too "many knobs on"
It is not 5* grandeur with plasma screens and telephones in every room and butlers - It concentrates on being good value in, and for every sense, which means you put a little in too, thats what makes it so special!
Do give it a try.
I would highly recommend High Holdings
It is lovely, comfortable, fantastic location, good quality and thoughtful hosts, just a great place to unwind, and still close to the sea, sights, shopping etc.
