We arrived much later than expected after a 24 hour plane trip and 5 hour drive. Fabrizio's welcome, warm and effusive, along with chilled glasses of prosecco served on the wisteria terrace was instantly relaxing. Much laughter and gesticulating set the mood for our stay at I Vecci Mulini.
We were immediately made to feel part of the family, being introduced to friends and the lovely Nicoletta.
The next morning began with coffee made to order, blood orange juice, yoghurt, the most tender cut meats we have ever tasted, cheese, croissants and the best bread in Italy topped with Luxardo sour cherry jam, and more coffee.
Fabrizio and Nicoletta were charming hosts, passionate and knowledgeable about their region and its history and attractions.
Fabrizio set us a plan for the first day. The Villa dei Vescovi is close by and definitely recommended. Set in the hills, surrounded by formal gardens, an orchard and vineyard, it is a magnificent example of pre-Palladian architecture.(An added bonus is the free wi fi accessible in the villa and gardens.) Then to the Baroque gardens and a drive to the village of Arqua Petrarca and the Villa Rotonda on the return trip. The following day, the Strada del Prosecco - a longish drive but very picturesque. Try to find the old mill at Refrontolo - stunning!
Exhausted after long days exploring the region, the accommodation at I Vecchi Mulini is all you could want. Immaculately clean, comfortable and quiet. I Vecchi Mulini is an excellent base from which to explore the Euganean Hills or just to relax.
We will definitely return for a longer stay and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Many many thanks to Fabrizio and Nicoletta for a wonderful stay.
Ps. The Triplum triple sec and the Orange Liqueur with Prosecco have become our favorite drinks.
