“A Perfect Place to Relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

he location is brilliant, just a few kms from a main road but such a rustic situation for a hotel set in delightful gardens. Wonderful staff, very comfortable beds in a spacious room with delightful private terrace - just an excellent situation for relaxing in the peace and quiet of the Sinis countryside.
The meals were delicious; thought provoking menus provided a stimulus to experimenting with new ideas when back home. The opportunities to sample Sarda wines and beers meant we enjoyed every glass from every bottle that was recommended!
Good base for finding quiet beaches, ancient sites and a lagoon at the end of the lane, complete with a flock of flamingos!

Room Tip: Superior rooms or a suite - just ask for a shady or sunny terrace when booking

The staff without exception are exemplary. They really cannot do enough for you and always greeted with a warm smile.

The food was delightful and cater for any dietary requests without any issues.

Their wine cellar and knowlege of local wines was superb.

The Lodge is slightly out of the way, but is perfect to switch off and relax. The only cricism is the shower in the standard rooms is so tiny, the rooms and indeed the hotel as a whole is immaculate.

Although the hotel do not allow you bring any drinks into your room without charging corkage, they are not greedy and do not charge extortionate amounts for drinks.

You can connect to wifi in your room for a reasonable charge, or it is free in the hotel lobby.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing break away, as the hotel is slightly remote. It gives a feel of home from home, with beautifully tended gardens surrounded by countryside, and not far (by car) to a number of picturesque beaches.

We would go back, but perhaps for a short break due to the location - which is beautiful but can be exhausted in a few days.

My sister and I spent a very relaxing week in this charming hotel. All staff without exception were courteous and accommodating. Most speak fluent english but are delighted when you try your italian with them. We enjoyed the food, delicate and varied and were pleased with the wine recommendations. The quietude which permeates the hotel is blissful: no loud music to be heard anywhere. So rare nowadays. We inadvertantly left some money in the safe in our room and no sooner were we inside the airplane that the air hostess informed us that they had received a phone call from the hotel to let us know! The next day we received a call from the travel agency SARDATUR who made arrangements to send us the money. This is impressive! We certainly will recommend the Is Benas Country Lodge and Sardatur to our friends.

Room Tip: Downstairs room at the front of the lodge where you can catch the last of the sun in late afternoon

The lodge is charming and the staff are delightful. Not once on our stay did they ask our room number when we ordered drinks or food they knew everyone staying there. I am coeliac so gluten intolerant and my husband does not eat fish. They made gluten free pasta and had gluten free bread and cakes. They substituted any meat dishes for him with lovely fish dishes. The pool area is quiet and despite other peoples comments there were plenty of sun beds (unless you are there in the height of the season). You can get to pretty beaches and the hotel will lend you parasols and chairs. Lunch in the beach huts is cheap and delicious. There are plenty of places to explore and returning back to the Benas lodge was always a pleasure. It has an older guest profile and everyone was interesting and friendly. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: do not choose room 120 over reception it is very noisy

When we arrived at the hotel and were shown to our rooms we were, at first disappointed, and we asked to see a 'superior room'; just the same but with a small private terrace, the room space was and is small. once again we are at odds with the star rating criteria. This is discribed as a four star hotel and whilst the hotel is very well kept, ie: clean and tidy we did not expect wood effect vinyl on the floor, or indeed throughout the hall. We did expect a level of originality, real wood would have been nice. the rooms are small and the bathrooms are small although just about adequate. However no lounge chairs or table at which one may relax. The furniture is all in nice condition and looks new. However just a bit basic. Although the bed was firm, it suited us and we slept well. The air conditioning, whilst noisy is effective. The staff are fabulous and attentive in a refined kind of way which we appreciated, Stefano the bar steward and somelier was well informed about the wine, none of which we understood as they were all new to us, grape varieties we did not know, he even accomodated our request for lime in our gin instead of the local lemon. This vacation was sourced from secret escapes, and it is fairly remote. This was our first trip to Sardinia, the island is large and people are friendly. overall we had a lovely stay on the island. having parted with £2000.00 for seven days of bed, breakfast, car rental and evening meal, described as a nightly seven course gourmet experience, I would say that we had value for money. The food we had not experienced before which was well prepared and original, served with pleasure by caring staff. The word gourmet is, perhaps slightly over egging, but we were happy overall. We did not experience a lack of sun loungers as has been reported and the pool and its area was regularly maintained, in fact the overall attention to cleanliness is admirable. we thought a week enough in this area for our first visit. Would we go back and stay here? Yes. Would we book through the same supplier? Yes. So all in all though we had one or two issues, overall a jolly good 9/10! Malcolm S Stott

We stayed at this hotel for just one week in one of the standard rooms on the first floor, located at the front of the hotel. The room was quiet, big, comfortable with a nice bathroom and crucially, cool at all times with a very efficient air conditioning system. With temperatures outside reaching 40 degrees C, this was really important, specially at night. Rooms on the ground floor are more expensive and I'm not sure that they are worth the extra money. They are advertised as having their own terrace and garden, but this amount to a tiny patio with an even tinier space with a few plants, which face either the tennis court (!) and have a limited view or are at the front of the hotel and therefore not really private. I agree with some of the previous reviews: 1- they need to buy more sun beds for the pool area (coming back late afternoon every day, we could not get one) 2- although the food was nice, I would not describe it as gourmet food, but as local cuisine using seasonal, local ingredients. Some nights were better than others and my main complaint about the food was on nights 2 and 3, when there was not one vegetable in sight in the whole menu! Considering that they proudly show you their vegetable garden when you arrive, I found it very odd. I also found it odd to have risotto next to pasta or gnocchi on the same plate, followed by potatoes served with the meat or fish... a bit heavy. Generally speaking, dishes were nice and my complaint is more about the lack of dietary balance. An example: Starter was local ham, sausage and cheese, followed by chicken soup, followed by pasta and risotto, followed by pork and potatoes + a dessert. Thank god for the fresh fruit that we always got with the dessert!
Some people have also criticised their breakfast, but, personally, I liked it: good coffee, fresh fruit (including fresh local figs), locally made ricotta and fresh bread ... that's all I need in the morning! But there also were breakfast cereals, ham, cheese, eggs, jam, croissants and cakes ....
I do agree with all the comments about the staff: they are all very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable.
All in all, I did enjoy my stay at the hotel and loved Sardinia: we did a lot of visiting as there are some fantastic archeological sites within an hour drive. There also are some nice beaches: If you like snorkelling, some of the rocky coves are fantastic. But beware: the sun can be vicious, so take care! Another thing: mosquitoes and other insects are a nuisance in the evening, so take some insect repellant with you!

Room Tip: Not sure the "superior" rooms on the ground floor are worth the extra cost. There is a lif...

We booked via secret escapes and all went well until the day we were due to travel and sadatours changed our flight time via email. Lucky we picked it up. The hotel was a little oasis the area beautiful and the staff made wonderful recommendations.
The local wines were well recommended and the staff were courteous and I would say made the holiday. The menu was rustic and local portions enough but not so you went to bed over full. The hotel accommodated our dislike for fish and were wonderful about it.
So if you want a quiet oasis with mainly English guest ( we had wonderful evenings full of conversation) then this is just the place
