“Friendly, some disappointments with the menu, but good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We stayed in Sablet for 10 days at the end of August. The restaurant is between a cheap/ok-ish "sports bar" and an expensive "real " restaurant, so it aims to be friendly, convenient and relaxed. In those three areas, marvellous with the owners being very approachable and flexible. Te downside was lack of choice and when tapas or moules-frites were written on the board, asking for them was met with a gallic shrug with "a sorry we changed the menu last minute". if you can live with that then you'll enjoy this place, if you want more formality, it could be frustrating. We would go back for the relaxed and fun atmosphere alone.

“Great location disappointing food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

We've been coming to Sablet for years and have seen owners of the Ramparts come and go, so were pleased to hear that it was under new management and hoped things would improve. After our visit this evening we are sad to say that the new owners failed to make a good impression on us, despite the friendly welcome and reasonably attentive service.

It's such a great location and they have a captive audience, but they don't seem to make the best of it. The menu is scrawled on a chalk board and there doesn't appear to be any starters on offer with just one list of dishes. The menu is very confusing and other diners appeared just as confused, with some ordering what they though we're starters and mains then getting 2 main courses. The selection of dishes were a very mixed bag... Steak served with burnt sweet potato crisps and carrots?? Why not just served with the classic fries and salad? Other dishes were served luke warm and one disastrous dessert of unripe diced peaches in minted water - why?

With a little thought about the menu, introducing proper starters and some classic local dishes there is potential for this to be a good restaurant. But for the time being we will not be returning.

“This place was funny, flavorfilled”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We were staying on the outskirts of the town of Sablet, and by day 4 were tired of the pretentious restaurants in other towns. We chose this new, small restaurant in the town square; the owner was hilarious, the menu simple and delicious, and reasonably priced. The owner kept stopping by to make sure we were ok, even though he spoke little English. Oh, get the salad with the goat cheese,on toast with sprinkled honey on top. Amazing.

“Ebullient new owners & nice meal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Following Froglink's update on Les Ramparts, we went along one balmy June Friday evening where the new owners were running a Moules & Frites night! These were delicious, fresh and full of flavour, with more bread to mop up the juices forthcoming. When we asked if there was a vegetarian option, absolutely! In fact they came up with nice courgette flans with salad. Dessert was a tasty Corsican lemon pudding with chestnut mousse. The carafe of local rose was fresh and fruity, and clearly the other guests enjoyed the wine too judging the refills being asked for. Romaine and Nadia provided cheerful welcome with Romaine effusing cheerful banter with all guests, irrespective of age, gender or nationality. Service was very speedy and efficient, but by no means making us feel rushed, in fact they were quite happy to leave us finishing the last of our wine enjoying the atmosphere.

“Latest news! Change of ownership at les Remparts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

The entry for this restaurant my change soon, as it will become Cotes et Remparts, to highlight its new emphasis on presenting the area's wines. In the meantime, this review will update the current entry.
Last month, Romain Chamfort and Nadia Brassard took over the Remparts restaurant which, years back, had cult status, but had run down deplorably. With the new emphasis on fresh ingredients (they have thrown away the old freezers) and the wine-food mix, this place should regain its old popularity. Romain and his brother Thibault are running the family winery, Domaine Verquiere, a Sablet institution, and Romain runs a wine shop, too. This valley has some of the world's best value wines, so come here to enjoy this situation while it lasts! The village square now provides a good choice of two restaurants; this new offering and the neighbouring Cafe des Sports, under the dynamic managements of Bruno Bordeaux.
