My husband and I looked forward to an evening at the Ashlea; we hadn't been for years and thought we could add it to our list of favourite eating places if we enjoyed the food.
The pub is comfortable with good seating. The staff were pleasant and very helpful showing us to our table on arrival, providing a menu and ordering our drinks. We decided to try a speciality dish of deep fried prawns, sprat and squid on rocket, half a little gem lettuce with pancetta, onions, chilli, peppers and garlic mayonnaise. It did look fairly impressive on arrival but the taste was an not an enjoyable experience. The fish was overcooked, the batter very hard and fried in a fat that tasted old and left an aftertaste in your mouth. Turning to the salad it was not appreciated that the brown end of the lettuce stem had not even been chopped off. We were going to have a dessert but decided against it. After being asked if we had enjoyed the meal we stated the above and was given a 1/3 off the bill. We always give a fair and constructive review, sorry Ashlea you have not been added to our list of eating places.
